Exploring Diddy’s College Years: Did His Parties Begin at Howard University?

Sean Combs, widely known as Diddy, is currently serving time at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, with his wealth estimated at over $600 million. The rap icon was arrested on September 16 in Manhattan after facing multiple accusations of sex trafficking.

Amidst scrutiny surrounding his career, the lavish white parties that Diddy has been hosting annually on July 4th have also come under fire. These celebrations, characterized by a strict white dress code, have gained notoriety for the nudity often displayed at these events.

Diddy pioneered the concept of white parties back in 1998 in the Hamptons, but his reputation for extravagant gatherings dates back even further. A detailed investigation by Rolling Stone published on May 29, 2024, highlighted his legacy of throwing wild and unforgettable parties starting from his college years.

Recollections from Howard University Alumni About Diddy’s Partying Style

In 1987, Sean “Diddy”Combs enrolled at Howard University, where he quickly gained fame for his extravagant parties, as per reports from Rolling Stone.

While some alumni described the Bad Boys for Life artist’s parties as “theatrical”and “over-the-top,”others recounted experiences filled with “fits of rage, unwanted physical contact, and public altercations.”

On one notable occasion, Combs reportedly appeared at his girlfriend’s dorm, shouting for her to come outside. A former peer shared with the media:

“He yelled and acted like a fool until she finally came down.”

Once she emerged, Diddy allegedly started to assault her. The anonymous classmate recounted how he seemed to use a belt to strike her repeatedly, stating:

“She was trying to defend herself… She was crying. We shouted for him to stop.”

In addition to physical altercations, the rapper would frequently approach his girlfriend while she was in class, tapping on the window and urging her to skip her studies. Another student added:

“You could feel her tension when he showed up. It was like he held a strange control over her. She seemed genuinely fearful.”

When approached by Rolling Stone for comments on these allegations, Diddy chose not to respond directly. His attorney, Johnathan Davis, stated:

“We are aware that the relevant authorities are conducting an exhaustive investigation, and we trust that all significant matters will be dealt with in the appropriate manner, distinguishing between reality and fiction.”

Despite not completing his degree after taking an internship with Uptown Records during his sophomore year, Howard University recognized Diddy with an honorary degree in 2014.

Revocation of Diddy’s Honorary Degree by Howard University in June 2024

On May 20, 2024, CNN aired surveillance footage from a Los Angeles hotel dated March 2016, which showed Sean Combs pursuing his girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, while wearing only a towel, before violently assaulting her.

The footage captured Diddy kicking Ventura while she was on the floor and dragging her back to their hotel room.

Following the release of the video, Howard University faced significant criticism concerning their affiliation with Diddy. The Board of Trustees acted swiftly, officially revoking his honorary degree on June 7. A statement from the historically Black university indicated:

“Mr. Combs’ actions, as seen in the recently released footage, are fundamentally contrary to the core values of Howard University, leading to the conclusion that he no longer deserves this prestigious honor.”

This statement further emphasized the university’s resolute “opposition to all forms of interpersonal violence.”Additionally, regarding the potential return of the $1 million donation made by the Sean Combs Foundation, they confirmed:

“To date, no payments relating to the $1 million pledge have been due or received from the Sean Combs Foundation.”

As legal proceedings against Sean Combs continue, he remains in custody in Brooklyn after being denied bail.
