“Exploring Alternate Realities: Epik High’s Lovely Runner Parody Concert Poster Ignites a Hilarious Meme Explosion Online”
The hip-hop group Epik High has been trending on social media due to their humorous concert promotional poster, which parodies the well-known K-drama Lovely Runner. On October 8, Tablo, the group’s leader, unveiled the poster for their upcoming concert in Seoul, where he humorously portrayed Im Sol, a character played by Kim Hye-yoon, while DJ Tukutz adopted the role of Ryu Sun-jae, as depicted by Byeon Woo-seok.
For those unfamiliar, when Epik High announces concerts or world tours, they often release creative parody posters that have become beloved by fans, showcasing their musical talent and clever wit. For their upcoming Seoul concert scheduled for 2024, they previously released a parody poster inspired by Kim Go-Eun and Lee Do-hyun’s film Exhuma, followed by the second one featuring Lovely Runner.
Tickets for their concert went live on MELON Tickets, and within just 42 minutes of sharing the Lovely Runner parody poster, ticket sales skyrocketed, placing it at the top of trending charts on the platform. The poster left fans in fits of laughter, especially when the group shared behind-the-scenes footage revealing that the photoshoot was authentic and not modified with AI technology, further entertaining their audience. Enthusiastic fans took to social media to express their delight.
“Is this a different parallel universe?”a fan exclaimed.
“I’ve been a fan of Epik High for ten years and eagerly anticipate their parody posters each concert,”commented a user.
“Even if Epik High lacked talent (which they definitely don’t), their clever promotional photos would still have me stanning,”a fan added.
Many netizens expressed admiration for the K-Hip-hop trio’s inventive promotional approach using Lovely Runner.
“I aspire to have as much fun at work as Epik High does with their concert posters,”another fan shared.
“EPIK HIGH uniquely crafts parody concert posters based on classic and iconic films or dramas. Their choice of Lovely Runner highlights this perfectly; classic and famous resonate well with LR. Fun fact: Tablo wrote Younha’s Umbrella, featured in LR,”a user noted.
“I honestly thought they just photoshopped their faces, but they actually did a full photoshoot, LMFAO,”a fan remarked.
Initially, fans were uncertain whether the parody poster was a genuine shot or an AI-enhanced image. However, after the poster gained significant traction, Epik High released a video showcasing the photoshoot process.
“Just a reminder that they consistently use real photoshoots for their concert posters. I still recall the one inspired by Welcome to Dongmakgol,”a fan said.
“OMG, WAIT, THEY REALLY DID A PHOTOSHOOT, NOT JUST AN EDITED IMAGE,”a user reacted.
“I can’t believe they didn’t just digitally add Tablo’s face to a template; he wore full makeup and a wig?”a fan expressed.
Tablo of Epik High Addresses Legal Concerns Over Lovely Runner Parody Poster
Following the unveiling of the Lovely Runner parody poster, Epik High received numerous inquiries from fans. On October 9, Tablo addressed these concerns via a social media reel, mentioning that many were worried about potential legal repercussions for using elements from Lovely Runner.
Initially, Tablo expressed concern, but later in another reel, he noted that the director of Varo Entertainment, Um Heung-beom, shared the poster on his Instagram and tagged Byeon Woo-seok. Given that Byeon Woo-seok is part of Varo Entertainment, Tablo felt reassured that they were likely avoided legal issues.
The hip-hop trio, including Tablo, DJ Tukutz, and Mithra, is gearing up for their concerts scheduled for December 20, 21, and 22 at the Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Seoul.
