Exploring Alprazolam and Promethazine: Details from Rich Homie Quan’s Autopsy Report and Cause of Death Revealed

The official cause of death for Rich Homie Quan has been released. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed in a report dated October 1, 2024, that he succumbed to an accidental drug overdose on September 5. Traces of substances including fentanyl, alprazolam, and promethazine were detected in his system, as reported by People magazine.

For those unfamiliar, alprazolam is a medication prescribed for anxiety disorders and panic disorders. Its misuse can result in complications, such as respiratory depression. It is primarily available only within the U.S.

Similarly, promethazine serves as a sedative often used to treat conditions such as nausea, motion sickness, and allergy symptoms.

The report also clarified that no signs of trauma were observed during the examination of his body. Following the rapper’s tragic passing, authorities initiated an investigation which commenced with an autopsy.

Details from the Incident Report: Rich Homie Quan Found by His Brother

According to People magazine, an incident report disclosed that Rich’s brother, Andre Munford, discovered him on the kitchen floor early in the morning with food in his mouth. It is reported that he immediately moved Rich to the couch. A few hours later, Amber Williams, who was later identified as Rich’s girlfriend, called the police when she noticed he wasn’t breathing.

The medical examiner’s office indicated last month that the specifics surrounding Rich Homie Quan’s death would be disclosed later due to pending laboratory analyses and microscopic examinations of tissue samples.

Approximately six days following his death, the Atlanta Police Department released an incident report that included statements from the officer who responded to the 911 call made by Amber Williams. The officer noted that there were no indications of foul play and remarked:

“Mr. Lamar did not appear to be alert, conscious, or breathing. Ms. Williams informed me that Mr. Lamar did not have any medical conditions or underlying diseases.”

A recording of the 911 call, obtained by TMZ, revealed that Williams told dispatchers Rich Homie Quan had been unresponsive since he fell asleep the previous night. After finding him on the couch in the morning, she initially thought he was just deeply asleep and covered him with a blanket before leaving to drop their son off at school. Upon her return, she discovered that he was not breathing and saw foam coming from his mouth, prompting her to call 911 in distress. The dispatcher instructed her to position Rich flat on his back, but unfortunately, paramedics pronounced him dead upon arrival.
