Modder xoxor4d has announced the launch of a preliminary compatibility build for the iconic 2008 video game, Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA 4), utilizing NVIDIA’s RTX Remix technology. This development allows players to experience the game with remarkable path-traced graphics. Currently, access to this RTX Remix build is limited to subscribers of xoxor4d’s Patreon, specifically those in the Chocolate Strawberry Advocate Tester tier, which costs $10 a month or more.

Recently, ResetEra user gabdeg had the opportunity to test this new build and remarked that the shared screenshots do not fully capture the stunning enhancements to GTA 4’s visuals through path tracing, despite using the game’s original textures. xoxor4d is known for their exemplary efforts in enhancing classic games with RTX Remix, having previously improved popular titles such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Portal 2, and Left 4 Dead 2. Notably, their contributions to Left 4 Dead 2 resulted in the dedicated RTX NTD build, designed specifically for remaking the No Mercy campaign.

Requirements and Recommendations for Using the RTX Remix Mod

On the RTX Remix Compatibility Mods Discord, xoxor4d has shared critical details for users looking to run this upgraded version of GTA 4:

The RTX Remix mod requires the latest Complete Edition (version 1.2.0.59), available through Steam or Rockstar Games.
While both game versions are expected to function smoothly, it is recommended to use the Rockstar version due to known issues with the Steam version, particularly in windowed mode.
This mod is compatible with Fusion Fix, although users may encounter specific challenges. A specialized version of Fusion Fix tailored to the RTX Remix compatibility mod will be released in due time.

For those unfamiliar, Fusion Fix is a widely utilized mod that rectifies various issues in GTA 4 while introducing features such as a Field of View slider, motion blur and bloom toggles, an FPS limiter, and much more.
