In the realm of gaming, Hollow Knight: Silksong has become a widely recognized title, sparking extensive discussions and creativity among fans. Similar to the much-anticipated GTA 6 and Half-Life 3, Team Cherry’s forthcoming Metroidvania has elicited a variety of memes and jokes, primarily due to the prolonged development timeline. Initially announced as an expansion for the original Hollow Knight back in 2019, the project evolved into a standalone sequel, enhancing its scope significantly. However, updates on the game have been rare and inconsistent and, as of now, fans remain unfulfilled, as no release date has been established even after more than five years of development.
The community surrounding Silksong has generated numerous theories regarding its launch date, yet none have materialized as accurate. Many enthusiasts anticipated its unveiling during Gamescom 2024, only to be met with disappointment. Similar expectations were set for The Game Awards last year, but again, nothing significant occurred. With this ongoing uncertainty, it seems as though fans may be waiting indefinitely. However, a new theory has emerged, suggesting that an announcement regarding Silksong might be on the horizon.
Speculations Around an ARG by Team Cherry Developer

Within the r/Silksong subreddit, a number of users speculate that developer William Pellen may be subtly signaling the release date for the next trailer through an intriguing alternate-reality game (ARG). While this theory may initially seem far-fetched, the evidence presented by the community lends it some credibility. For instance, Reddit user hollowmartin noted that Pellen modified his Twitter profile on January 15, 2024—a day before the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2. He changed his username to “little bomey,”adjusted his Twitter handle to @everydruidwaswr, and updated his profile picture to that of a tempting chocolate cake.
Upon further investigation, fans found an intriguing connection regarding the cake image. A Google Reverse Image Search reveals that Pellen’s profile picture originates from a recipe on the culinary site Bon Appétit, for a Brooklyn Blackout Cake, which was posted on April 2, 2024. While the date might seem trivial, it aligns with a cryptic tweet from Pellen made shortly after.
On January 16, 2025, Pellen tweeted that “something big was coming,”urging his followers to keep their “eyes closed tomorrow.”The unconventional use of “closed”instead of “opened”raised eyebrows. Some theorists suggest this could hint at a deeper meaning. Interestingly, the phrase “Eyes Closed. Tomorrow.”was previously tweeted by the popular band Imagine Dragons on April 2, 2024, coinciding with the cake recipe release.
The phrase is notably the title of a song from Imagine Dragons’ sixth studio album, Loom.
Potential Reveal During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct
April 2, 2025, marks a significant day in gaming history, as Nintendo will conduct its highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on that date. Given this context, some fans are speculating that Hollow Knight: Silksong might make an appearance during the event. The connections drawn from the cake recipe and the Imagine Dragons tweet bolster this hypothesis. Nevertheless, Matthew “Leth”Griffen, another member of Team Cherry, has dismissed the ARG theory, insisting there is no such game in play. Yet, despite this clarification, a portion of the Hollow Knight: Silksong fanbase remains hopeful, convinced that there may be more beneath the surface than what Team Cherry has revealed.
