Explaining the Elden Ring Nightreign Rotted Woods Event

For those who found themselves struggling in Elden Ring’s Caelid, prepare for an even more daunting challenge in the Rotted Woods. This treacherous locale, part of Nightreign’s Shifting Earth events, will start filling your Scarlet Rot gauge as soon as you step foot in the area, ensuring that you will face this debilitating ailment until you claim the reward hidden within.

Given the harsh conditions, it’s advisable to only attempt this area on Day 2 of your adventure. Similar to other events like The Crater or The Mountaintops, you’ll need to act swiftly. Below, we delve into the specifics of how the Nightreign Rotted Woods event operates and the rewards it conceals.

Overview of the Nightreign Rotted Woods Event

The Rotted Woods is one among the four Shifting Earth events featured in Nightreign. Fortunately, the reward here is relatively easy to obtain. This event becomes accessible after you defeat roughly four to five Nightlords, and you can only explore the Rotted Woods when the event remains active during your Expedition.

If you wish to avoid engaging with this event, simply rest at the bed located in the Hold until the event concludes. Shifting Earth events generally persist for a few runs—typically between three to five—before the area of Limveld returns to its usual state.

It’s strongly recommended to explore the Rotted Woods on Day 2 of your Expedition. By this point, your character should be sufficiently leveled up, and the Night’s Tide typically encroaches upon the area on this day. Additionally, several Great Enemy bosses await your challenge here, providing further incentives to explore after some initial adventuring.

First, locate a red/orange quest marker on your map—this will indicate the location of a castle. Upon entering, ascend to the upper levels to find a treasure map. This map functions similarly to those atop forts, revealing not just locations of Teardrop Scarabs but also pinpointing a specific flower within the Rotted Woods that hides your area reward.

Climbing the tree to retrieve the item will grant you immunity to Scarlet Rot. This powerful item also introduces an interesting mechanic where there is a brief cooldown period between sustaining damage and its deduction from your health bar, allowing you sufficient time to heal before potentially being taken down.
