Exploring an Alternate Path for the Universal Century
A Dramatically Different Outcome

Gundam GQuuuuuuX unfolds in a reimagined Universal Century, reshaping the narrative established in the original Mobile Suit Gundam 0079. In this variant timeline, the Earth Federation’s ambitions are halted when Char Aznable, also known as the Red Comet, leads an attack on Side 7, successfully stealing the production prototype Gundam RX-78-02. This action marks the turning point that leads to Zeon’s eventual dominance.
Following the theft, Char deftly defeats the RX-78-01 and transports the Gundam to his base, where Zeon engineers quickly reverse-engineer its mechanics. This technological advancement prompts Zeon to shift their strategy—abandoning plans for a Mobile Armor unit powered by the Psycommu system, in favor of mass-producing Gundam units while also developing the formidable Mobile Armor, the Big Zam.
In response, the Earth Federation continues enhancing their mobile suit technology, leading to the creation of the Guncannon Light, a mobile suit that surpasses the Guncannon yet remains inferior compared to the original Gundam. As the war between the Federation and Zeon escalates, the Federation wrests control of the space fortress Solomon. They devise a plan to launch Solomon onto the Zeon stronghold of Granada, mirroring Zeon’s prior tactic of dropping a space colony onto Earth.
Char Aznable, now commanding a modified Gundam dubbed the Red Gundam, confronts the impending disaster head-on. Through a remarkable display of Newtype abilities and the Gundam’s Psycommu technology, he triggers a phenomenon known as The Zeknova. This event closely mirrors the famed Axis Shock from Char’s Counterattack. While Char is successful in preventing the catastrophic descent of Solomon, this victory comes at a steep price—he and the Red Gundam mysteriously vanish.
In the aftermath of Char’s disappearance, the Federation, recognizing their faltering position, extends an olive branch to Zeon, leading to peace negotiations. Consequently, the One-Year War concludes on January 3, one year after it began, with Zeon emerging as the clear victor.
Fast forward to a future where mobile suit fighting becomes a prevalent pastime, we meet Amate Yuzuriha, a girl living a tranquil existence yet drawn into these battles as the pilot of the titular Gundam GQuuuuuuX. This new series diverges significantly from the established timeline, illustrating how Char’s successful theft of the Gundam altered the outcome of the war and transformed the global landscape.
With Gundam GQuuuuuuX, fans are treated to the franchise’s second TV series featuring a female lead, following closely on the heels of The Witch from Mercury. Notably, production collaborations with Studio Khara trace back to the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn project, laying a strong foundation for this innovative series.
As anticipation builds, Gundam GQuuuuuuX promises to rejuvenate the franchise with an engaging narrative and unique artistic direction, derived from the renowned Evangelion team, appealing to both seasoned veterans and new audiences alike.
