The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 Premiere Conclusion: Dohla’s Sudden Demise

As episode 3 begins, the members of Vox Machina venture into the dangerous Hells of Despa in pursuit of a valuable plate claimed to be hidden there by J’mon Sa Ord. This quest is fraught with peril, given that the plate is fiercely guarded by dragons.

Allura and Kima reassure their teammates of assistance from a companion they have in Draconia, who turns out to be none other than Dohla. Dohla shares a complicated history with Allura and Kima; the trio had once worked together to vanquish Thordak, but Allura and Kima took the spotlight, sidelining Dohla during the heroic effort.

It comes as a surprise to both Allura and Kima that Dohla has seemingly moved on without resentment. However, as their journey continues, it becomes apparent that Dohla harbors bitterness; she has been manipulating Vox Machina into a trap. Before long, Vorugal, the terrifying ice dragon, makes his entrance.

This episode features the first sighting of the white dragon in The Legend of Vox Machina season 3. His sudden appearance sends the Vox Machina team into a frenzy as they scramble for safety. In a moment of bravado, Dohla mocks Vorugal, inciting his wrath.

Infuriated, Vorugal swiftly ends Dohla’s life. Meanwhile, he captures Allura, Vex, and Percy, isolating them in the mountains and cutting them off from the rest of the group.

What Transpires in Ank’Harel?

Towards the climax of episode 1 of The Legend of Vox Machina season 3, the group ventures to Ank’Harel in search of a powerful vestige. Gilmore directs them to its location, but they soon learn, through Raishan’s warning, that they are not the only ones pursuing it—Anna Ripley is on the same mission.

Ripley manages to flee with the vestige, prompting Percy to engage in a thrilling chase to catch her. It becomes evident that Ripley has sinister intentions involving the vestige and seeks to persuade Percy to join her plot.

However, the intended alliance never takes off as Ripley escapes, leaving Vox Machina unjustly accused of the murder of Mistress Asharru, a crime that actually lies with Ripley. The ruler of Ank’Harel, J’mon Sa Ord, punishes Percy for this alleged act and orders the others to vacate Ank’Harel.

By virtue of Scanlan’s quick thinking, proof is presented to the ruler, exposing Ripley as the true culprit. Consequently, Percy and his companions are exonerated. J’mon Sa Ord informs them that the plate Ripley has stolen is merely a replica; the genuine article resides in the Hells of Despa.

Exploring Raishan’s Motives Against Thordak

Traditionally adversaries, Raishan and Vox Machina’s dynamic transforms as the first episode of season 3 commences with Raishan expressing an intent to assist the group in defeating Thordak.

Raishan’s vendetta against Thordak stems from betrayal; after she saved him from the Fire Plane, Thordak broke his oath to free her from a life-threatening curse. Raishan reveals to Vax and the other members that Thordak’s ambition is to instate a regime of elemental dragons.

During an infiltration of Thordak’s lair, Vax discovers a number of dragon eggs, validating Raishan’s claims and suggesting that her secret campaign against Thordak could play a crucial role in the unfolding story of The Legend of Vox Machina season 3.

The next three episodes of this thrilling season are set to be released on October 10, 2024.
