Introduction to Sasuke’s Rinnegan
Sasuke Uchiha is a pivotal figure in the Naruto universe, known for his exceptional abilities, largely attributed to his famed Rinnegan. Initially thought to be a mere legend, Sasuke awakened this powerful eye during the Fourth Great Ninja War, which equipped him to confront formidable foes like Madara Uchiha and Kaguya Otsutsuki.
Sadly, this remarkable power did not remain with him indefinitely. In the Boruto series, Sasuke’s losses culminated in a significant decline in his powers. However, fans remain hopeful that his journey is not over. Sasuke’s character continues to have relevance within the Boruto narrative, and his eventual return could introduce new levels of strength potentially tied to the Rinnegan once more.
The Loss of Sasuke’s Rinnegan

Sasuke has faced significant challenges throughout the Boruto series. After reaching the pinnacle of his powers at the conclusion of the Naruto saga, his status seemed to take a downturn in the subsequent narrative. Although he demonstrated his prowess during the battle against Momoshiki Otsutsuki alongside Naruto Uzumaki, his contributions appeared limited following that encounter. Subsequent battles showcased his struggle; against Jigen, for instance, Sasuke found himself insubstantial.
Even more disheartening was his confrontation with Isshiki, where he was nearly killed. His encounters culminated with Code, leading to an embarrassing defeat where he ended up being turned into a tree. Throughout these arcs, it has become evident that Sasuke’s portrayal in Boruto has been markedly worse compared to Naruto, who shone brightly with the introduction of Baryon Mode. Fans witnessed Sasuke’s Rinnegan being mortally wounded by a Momoshiki-possessed Boruto, a harsh reminder that his glorious days might be over.
What I mean is that things don’t always go as planned. Small changes have often been made right from the beginning. But little by little, the story develops in a direction that’s different from Kishimoto-sensei’s outline. Various factors can explain this. But the biggest reason is that I needed to create for myself a new outcome for the shonen part and a concept for the seinen part.– Ikemoto
Ada’s Role in Sasuke’s Potential Recovery
Fan Theories on Sasuke’s Return

Fans are unanimously hopeful for Sasuke’s return in Boruto. The absence of both Naruto and Sasuke would leave a gaping hole in the series, as they are among the most recognized characters in the franchise. Unlike other characters such as Rock Lee, whose absence is somewhat easier to accept, Sasuke and Naruto must play significant roles in any unfolding plot developments.
The narrative demands the return of Konoha’s Seventh Hokage along with Sasuke. Upon their return, it is crucial that they showcase their capabilities once more rather than being overshadowed by newer characters like Code. With Boruto and Kawaki displaying such prowess, it becomes essential for Sasuke to reclaim his fighting spirit and skills.
The narrator proclaims: “The power to turn anything into a reality, Omnipotence!”– showcasing the high stakes and potential within the narrative.
As Sasuke prepares for a potential comeback, it’s clear he must regain significant strength. Currently, his power level is formidable; during the Boruto timeskip, he has indeed matured enough to strip Code of his eye, a notable achievement. Nevertheless, to reclaim his former glory, he truly needs his Rinnegan back. While this may seem unfeasible, it could become possible through Shinjutsu—a power capable of altering reality, which Ada commands.
Possibility of Reawakening the Rinnegan
Sasuke’s Potential for Regaining His Powers

Even if Ada does not grant Sasuke his Rinnegan back, his potential to achieve it remains. Sasuke inherently possesses the chakra of Indra Otsutsuki, and he received a portion of the Sage of Six Paths’ powers, which enabled him to awaken one Rinnegan in his left eye. Thus, the possibility exists that he can manifest a Rinnegan in his right eye as well. Should it not awaken spontaneously, there is a possibility that Naruto could assist him in this quest, sharing his Asura Otsutsuki chakra.
Ultimately, the trajectory of Sasuke’s journey depends heavily on the direction chosen by the series’ creators. If the author decides to continue sidelining Sasuke in the ongoing Two Blue Vortex saga, it will hinder his character’s growth. Nevertheless, pathways for Sasuke to regain his former strength and possibly his Rinnegan do persist—it’s simply a matter of the narrative’s progression and the decisions made by the author.
The Boruto series is published by Viz Media, and fans can follow it officially for free via the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. Look forward to the release of the next chapter, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 19, set for February 20, 2025.
