Outer Banks Season 4 Part 1: JJ’s Pogue Identity Questioned

The catalyst for this season’s events arises from JJ. Following their triumphant El Dorado escapade, the Pogues have amassed considerable wealth. Nonetheless, JJ’s reckless tendencies lead him to gamble away a significant portion of their fortune. As a result, the Pogues are not only left with diminished funds but also require additional money to settle property taxes.

This predicament is what drives them to embark on the mission for the amulet. Outer Banks season 4 part 1 expertly intertwines thrilling adventures with deeply personal and character-revealing moments.

The explosive conclusion reveals the mystery behind the episode’s title. During a dramatic segment, JJ rescues his father from law enforcement, and they escape to a lighthouse. It’s here that JJ’s father, Luke, drops the bombshell that he is not JJ’s biological father.

Instead, JJ’s true parents are Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff, making him the grandson of Wes Genrette. The episode title “Albatross” references the boat on which Larissa met her demise years earlier.

What Treasure are the Pogues Pursuing?

In the initial episodes of Outer Banks season 4 part 1, the treasure the Pogues seek seems to merely focus on the amulet belonging to Elizabeth Teach. However, as the plot progresses, more complex conspiracies come to light.

After a tumultuous series of events, the Pogues finally acquire the amulet, but Pope, the group’s intelligent strategist, discovers that the directions etched on Blackbeard’s amulet lead to a crypt beneath a cemetery in downtown Charleston.

True to their adventurous spirit, the Pogues are eager to follow the lead from the amulet, believing it may lead to even greater treasures. Additionally, Cleo finds herself with personal stakes in this search.

Tragic losses of father figures have been a recurring theme throughout the series, and Outer Banks season 4 part 1 continues this trend. Cleo forms a bond with Sarah and John B, joining the Pogues in their quest for Blackbeard’s treasure.

Unfortunately, Terence, her father figure, is part of a rival faction, led by Lightner. Tensions escalate as Lightner aims to eliminate the competition, targeting Cleo directly.

In a heroic act, Terence defends Cleo but tragically loses his life at the hands of Lightner. This loss drives Cleo to pursue the mission with renewed vigor, seeking retribution against Lightner.

Where Do the Pogues Find Themselves at the End?

As the first part of Outer Banks season 4 draws to a close, the Pogues find themselves in a perilous situation. Following the amulet’s directions, they arrive at a church where Pope and Sarah decide to venture down below.

However, their adversaries, Lightner and Dalia, are close on their heels. Once they reach the crypt indicated by the amulet, they are confronted with flooding. Unnervingly, Sarah and Pope notice barnacles on the ceiling, suggesting regular inundation of the space. To make matters worse, rats scurry around them.

As the season wraps up, two of the Pogues are ensnared within the crypt, while John B and Cleo desperately work to assist them from the outside.

All five episodes of Outer Banks season 4 part 1 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
