AMD has unveiled its latest technologies: FSR 4 and Fluid Motion Frames 2.1. These advancements harness the power of artificial intelligence to significantly enhance image quality and will be available in over 30 games upon launch.
FSR 4 & Combination with Fluid Motion Frames 2.1: Launching with 30+ Games and Future Support
AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology has seen a remarkable expansion, now encompassing more than 400 titles supported. This continual growth reinforces AMD’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge gaming experiences.

The evolution of FSR began in 2021 with the introduction of FSR 1, followed by notable updates including FSR 2 in 2022, FSR 3 in 2023, and FSR 3.1 in 2024. Each iteration has steadily improved image quality through innovations like Frame Generation and strong integration capabilities across various game engines.

Until now, FSR has faced stiff competition from NVIDIA’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS, particularly in AI-based upscaling utilizing machine learning (ML) technologies. However, with the launch of FSR 4, AMD introduces an ML-powered upscaler that promises several key improvements:
- Designed specifically for AMD RDNA 4 and newer architectures
- Offers high-quality and low-latency upscaling along with frame generation and anti-lag features
- Compatible with the upgradable FSR 3.1 API
- Supports neural rendering technologies

FSR 4: Embracing AI-Powered Upscaling
To develop FSR 4, AMD has trained custom ML models using its Instinct accelerators, integrating them into a sophisticated AI upscaling algorithm. These enhancements are designed to exploit the powerful capabilities of Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards, delivering an exceptional upscaled 4K experience exhibiting up to 779 TOPS of AI performance. The graphics then undergo frame generation, ensuring fluidity and visual quality that exceeds even native 4K outputs.

AMD reports that the upscaling alone can deliver performance gains of up to 2x with an average uplift of 60%.When combining with frame generation, users can achieve an average gain of 2.8x, and even higher numbers in select titles such as Ratchet and Clank, reaching up to 3.7x performance boosts while maintaining over 150 FPS.

At launch, FSR 4 will be featured in over 30 games, with plans to expand support to more than 75 titles by the close of 2025. Developers already utilizing FSR 3.1 can adopt FSR 4 easily, enhancing their game’s performance significantly.
