EXO’s Kai Finishes Military Service – Is a Full Group Comeback on the Horizon?

Kai, a prominent member of the renowned K-pop group EXO, has officially completed his mandatory military service, igniting enthusiasm among fans eager for a potential full-group comeback. This development marks a significant moment for both the idol and his dedicated followers.

The artist, born Kim Jong-in, was discharged from service on Monday after fulfilling a 21-month duty as a social service worker. His enlistment in May 2023 came as a surprise to the fandom, highlighting the swift pace of military schedules in South Korea.

During his service, the 31-year-old underwent five weeks of rigorous basic military training before transitioning to his social service role. This journey not only demonstrates his commitment but also his growth as an artist.

Kai’s First Public Appearance Since Discharge

In a heartwarming return to his fanbase, Kai participated in a special live broadcast called “KAI: Happily Ever After“on Tuesday, immediately after his discharge. This event, streamed on WeVerse, provided a platform for him to reconnect with the fans who have eagerly awaited his return.

With Kai’s return, the spotlight now turns to the remaining members of EXO. Notably, Sehun is the last member who has yet to be discharged, with plans to complete his military service by September 2025.

Anticipation for a Full Group Comeback

Kai’s discharge opens the door for EXO to work towards a full group comeback following Sehun’s exit from service. Recently, Suho, the group leader, provided a glimpse of what’s on the horizon during the SMTOWN LIVE concert in January, teasing fans with overarching plans for EXO.

“Sehun and Kai will be discharged from the military soon, and they’ll be back! So this year, 2025, please look forward to EXO, ”Suho stated, igniting excitement within the community.

As of now, SM Entertainment has not released any official statements regarding the group’s potential comeback. The last time EXO united as a nine-member group was during the promotion of their special album, Exist, in 2023. With Kai and Lay absent due to service commitments, the album marked a notable moment for the group.

Looking ahead, Kai has resumed his solo activities and is set to launch a new EP in the second quarter of 2025, keeping his creative momentum alive. This upcoming release is highly anticipated, especially considering the void left by the absence of new music from the full group since 2021.
