After more than a year since its highly successful launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to introduce an eagerly awaited feature for Xbox Series S gamers. Originally released on PC in August 2023, the game made its PlayStation 5 debut shortly after. However, it wasn’t until December that Xbox Series X/S users could access it—albeit without the crucial split-screen co-op option—until now.
Split-Screen Co-Op Features for Xbox Series S
What Players Can Anticipate from BG3 Split-Screen on Xbox

This exciting update means players on Xbox Series S can finally enjoy local co-op gameplay, expanding their multiplayer experience beyond the previous online-only restrictions. Now is the perfect time to team up with a friend and embark on an adventure through the Forgotten Realms together.
To utilize the split-screen function, players can follow a straightforward process: the first player initiates a new game, then the second player simply connects a controller and presses A to join. The first player’s screen will prompt them to allow the second player to enter the game, after which the newcomer can create their character and seamlessly join the party. Control of other characters can easily be shared through the Multiplayer section of the pause menu.
As with any multiplayer feature, keep in mind that the addition of split-screen may influence game performance and could introduce glitches during cutscenes. Therefore, it is advisable to save your progress regularly.
A standout aspect of the BG3 split-screen co-op is the ability for players to freely explore the game world. This means both players can tackle different side quests simultaneously. Furthermore, each player can participate in conversations involving other party members by pressing LT, selecting their character from the portrait list, and pressing A. If one player needs to continue without the other, they can dismiss the second player’s character, similar to how any party member would be managed.
Upcoming Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 Brings New Playtest
Additional Highlights in Patch 8

The split-screen addition is just a fragment of what players can expect from Patch 8, which is set to introduce a plethora of features and enhancements. Players can preview the extensive patch notes on the official Baldur’s Gate 3 website, where key highlights include an array of 12 new subclasses, cross-platform play capabilities, and a new Photo Mode.
While the exact release date for Patch 8 has yet to be announced, some players have already been invited to participate in a limited stress test. This phase aims to assess the server performance of the new crossplay functionality. Although the inclusion of split-screen co-op for Xbox Series S came as a delightful surprise, it promises to redefine the Baldur’s Gate 3 multiplayer landscape on this platform.
