Exciting AI Enhancements for Paint and Notepad Now Available
This month, Microsoft introduced a host of AI-driven features for Paint and Notepad as part of its ongoing innovation in the Windows Insider program. In a surprising turn of events, even Notepad has become a target for Microsoft’s AI advancements. Initially rolled out to users in the Canary and Dev Channels, these functionalities are now accessible to all Windows Insiders, albeit with some limitations.
Expanded AI Features for Windows Insiders
Microsoft has recently updated its announcement, indicating that the AI enhancements for both Paint and Notepad are now being deployed to users in the Beta and Release Preview Channels. A key point highlighted in the update emphasizes that the generative fill functionality in Paint is exclusively available on Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs running Windows 11, version 24H2 or higher, meaning it won’t be included for general users in the Beta Channel.
The generative fill in Paint is restricted to specific devices, impacting its availability within the Beta Channel.
Key Features for Paint
The following enhancements have been introduced for Paint, enriching the user experience with advanced AI capabilities:
- Generative Fill: Users can select an area of the canvas and specify what to add. Paint will provide various options based on the user’s request, allowing for style matching and regeneration of results.
- Generative Erase: This feature enables users to seamlessly remove objects from their artwork. By selecting an object, Paint can make it disappear, as if it never existed.
- Cocreator Update: The model supporting this feature has undergone enhancements, resulting in quicker image generation. Cocreator allows users to create images based on verbal descriptions and sketches.
- Image Creator: Users can generate images using natural language prompts. This capability has been expanded to additional countries, enhancing accessibility.
Notepad’s AI Upgrade
The Notepad app has also received significant updates, including AI assistance for rewriting text, making content creation smoother and more efficient. Moreover, Microsoft has successfully slashed the launch time by up to 55%, considerably speeding up the user experience.
Accessibility and Limitations
While Generative Fill and Cocreator are exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, functionalities such as Generative Erase and Notepad’s AI Rewrite are available on all supported Windows 11 machines. However, users should note that some features might be restricted by regional availability and may require AI credits or a Copilot Pro license for full access.
