Enhanced Data Refresh Features with Power Query

Recently, Excel for the web embraced a significant upgrade: the ability to refresh authenticated data sources directly using Power Query. This development simplifies what was once a cumbersome process where users had to download their files, conduct refreshes locally, and then re-upload them to the web. Now, with the latest update, refreshing data sources is more straightforward than ever.

Users can execute the Refresh All function from the Data tab or refresh specific data sources through the Queries pane, dramatically enhancing efficiency. Currently, the system supports up to 1, 000 connections per user for data refresh operations. When initiating a refresh, users might be prompted to provide credentials for their authenticated data sources, which encompass various platforms such as SharePoint, SQL Server, and Web APIs. Notably, you can continue working on other tasks in your workbook while the refresh process takes place.

Manage and View Data Source Credentials Efficiently

Another beneficial feature is the improved management of data source credentials used in Power Query. Users can access this functionality through the Data > Data Source Settings tab. Here, they have the flexibility to view, delete, and modify credentials either on a global scale or specifically for their current workbook. Additionally, authentication for existing data sources within the Excel workbook is now streamlined through this interface.
