On February 10, 1997, Donald was tragically shot and killed in the parking lot of Slammers Bar in Mount Orab, Ohio. This tragic incident occurred in the early morning when Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Buddy Moore noticed an unusual truck leaving the vicinity around the bar.

Authorities were alerted to a shooting in the parking lot, and upon their arrival, they discovered Joy Major Hoop leaning over Donald’s lifeless body.

The Investigation and Evidence

Additionally, law enforcement uncovered Lindsey’s blood-stained clothing, a pocket knife, bullets, and a. 22-caliber automatic pistol. Donald’s wallet, which contained nearly $1,000 cash, was also located at the scene.

The police promptly arrested Lindsey and brought Joy in for questioning. During the investigation, Joy confessed that earlier that day, she had discussed killing Donald with Lindsey, Kerr, and another accomplice, Kenneth Swinford.

Joy attempted to dismiss the conversation as a mere joke, but investigators remained skeptical due to her longstanding reputation for being both controlling and abusive.

Unraveling the Motive

Further inquiry unveiled the poisonous dynamics of Donald and Joy’s marriage. Family members and other witnesses described Joy as manipulative and violent, raising critical concerns about her motivations.

Joy reportedly had made multiple chilling statements expressing her desire to see Donald dead. This evidence solidified her involvement in orchestrating the murder, leading to her conviction for complicity in Donald’s horrific murder and conspiracy.
