The Murder Mystery side quest in GTA 5 offers an engaging experience after completing a specific story mode mission with one of the main characters. While there are no financial incentives for undertaking this quest, it serves as an entertaining diversion from the main storyline. Players will need to explore various locations in Los Santos to uncover clues, but since these locations aren’t shown on the map, it can be quite daunting to find them all without assistance.
In this guide, we will delve into the details of the GTA 5 Murder Mystery side quest and provide essential information you’ll need.
GTA 5 Murder Mystery: Locations of clues, rewards, and additional insights
This side quest is accessible on several platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC versions of the game. Similar to the Kifflom trophy quest, it can exclusively be played using Michael De Santa as the character.
The initial stage involves discovering four messages that are etched on various walls throughout Los Santos. Below are the specified locations:
GTA 5 Murder Mystery clue locations: Messages
Message 1: The first clue can be located in Alta.
The message in this area can be found inscribed on a wall:

Note that photographing these messages is unnecessary; simply being in close proximity will register them as collected.
GTA 5 Murder Mystery clue locations: Sunken body
After locating all four messages, make your way to the ocean off the Los Santos coastline to discover a sunken body. Just like with the messages, proximity to this clue is sufficient for it to be registered. Below are the details and visuals for its location:
It is advisable to use scuba diving equipment to locate this clue, or alternatively, utilize a Submersible. The Submersible can be acquired by investing in the Sonar Collections Dock, which is linked to the Nuclear Waste side quest in GTA 5.
For optimal visibility, try to search for the body during daylight hours, as underwater visibility declines at night.
GTA 5 Murder Mystery clue locations: Letter
After finding the sunken body, proceed to Solomon Richard’s office in Los Santos to review a letter located on his desk.
Keep in mind that entry to this location is only permitted after completing the Meltdown mission in the story mode, and you can only visit between 9 PM and 6 AM in-game hours. Thus, it’s recommended to initiate this quest after finishing the aforementioned mission for a smoother experience.
GTA 5 Murder Mystery: Final step and rewards
After reading the letter in Solomon Richard’s office, your next step involves traveling to the abandoned mine located in Great Chapparal. Utilize an explosive to break through the mine’s doors and venture inside to discover another body.
Once you locate this body, the GTA 5 Murder Mystery side quest will be completed, rewarding you with two Vintage screen filters. Moreover, a new contact named Isaac will be added to the phone of all three protagonists, allowing access to the earned Vintage filters by simply calling him.
