Leak and Release Information on the Creaking
The Creaking was first hinted at before Minecraft Live 2024. Despite Mojang’s intention to unveil the mob at their official event, the name and appearance of the creature were leaked prematurely.
Initially, the name of the mob and the new biome it would inhabit were unintentionally exposed on the official game website. Just two days prior to the event, fans began sharing images from developer after-show footage that prominently featured the new mob and its attributes. This was another leak that included visuals of a new block named the creaking heart.
Amid these leaks, Mojang utilized its official social media channels to drop subtle hints and teases about the new mob, although many dedicated community members were already aware of these details by that time.
On September 28, 2024, during Minecraft Live, the developers shared the official announcement of the Creaking mob.
Understanding the Creaking Mob
The reveal of the Creaking occurred during the live event, followed by a detailed demonstration in the developer after-show where the creators explored the new biome and discussed the mob’s features.
This new hostile mob is slightly taller than the player character in-game and exhibits a texture reminiscent of tree trunks found in the Pale Garden biome. Additionally, dead vines that sprout in the biome envelop the mob’s body, providing it with camouflage among the trees.
A unique characteristic of the Creaking is its behavior: when it spawns in the Pale Gardens at night, it will only approach the player if that player is not looking at it. If the Creaking is within a player’s line of sight, it will remain still. Although this new spooky mob is not particularly powerful, it can inflict one heart of damage.
Interestingly, attacking the Creaking won’t result in its death. Players can strike the mob as much as they like, but it will not sustain any damage or perish, even though it possesses only half a heart of health. The Creaking is connected to a new block called the creaking heart, which is generated deep within a Pale Garden tree.
The only method to eliminate the Creaking is by locating and destroying its heart, which can be found within the trees of the Pale Garden. Once the block is destroyed, the mob will disintegrate and die.
Currently, this mob does not drop any experience points or items upon death. Additionally, the new creaking heart block serves no purpose other than to summon the mob at night when it is re-placed between two pale oak log blocks.
