Discovering “Everything”: The Fast File Search Engine for Windows
“Everything”is a powerful search engine designed for Windows that enables users to locate files and folders by name almost instantaneously. Distinct from the default Windows search utility, “Everything”reveals all files and folders on your system from the get-go, allowing you to use a search filter to refine your results efficiently.
How “Everything”Operates
This innovative tool indexes only file and folder names, making it exceptionally quick. A freshly installed Windows 10 system—which typically contains around 120, 000 files—can be indexed in just about 1 second. If your system has approximately 1, 000, 000 files, the indexing process will take roughly 1 minute.
Compatibility of “Everything”
“Everything”is compatible with various versions of Windows, including XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, and 11. To enable NTFS indexing, it’s necessary to run the “Everything”service or execute the application with administrator privileges.
Understanding the Lite Version of “Everything”
The Lite version retains most features of the standard multilingual edition of “Everything, ”although it has some limitations. Here are the key features omitted:
- ETP/FTP Server removed
- HTTP Server removed
- IPC removed
Note that functionalities such as the command line interface (ES) and SDK are unavailable in the Lite version. Additionally, Windows accessibility features and screen readers are not supported.
