“Everyone has my name in their mouth online” – Gordon Ryan criticizes Olympic gold medalist Gable Stevenson for calling him out but refusing to fight

Despite being called out online by Gable Stevenson, the 2020 Olympic freestyle wrestling gold medalist (125 kg), Gordon Ryan has yet to face ‘The King’ in a match.

Without a doubt, Ryan is considered one of the most skilled no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners in history. His unparalleled success in the sport has garnered the interest of competitors in other grappling-based martial arts.

Despite already taking on and beating skilled wrestler Bo Nickal in a BJJ match last year, the top-ranked grappler in the world is eager to face the challenge presented by Stevenson.

However, when the Olympian did not respond to the call for a potential showdown, the 28-year-old expressed his disappointment on Instagram and criticized the Olympian’s arrogance. Ryan also pointed out that Stevenson had previously challenged him during his struggles with health issues.

“Everyone has my name in their mouth online, especially since I’m unhealthy again. But when it’s actually time to compete… I tried making that match happen many times and was left on read every single time.”

Gordon Ryan advocates for equal pay for female BJJ fighters

There is no denying that Gordon Ryan is widely considered the most prominent figure in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a highly accomplished competitor in the sport’s extensive history.

‘The King’ has always been outspoken on his views shared online, and he recently expressed his thoughts on the ongoing debate over fighter compensation in BJJ. Ffion Davies, a prominent figure in the sport, particularly in the female divisions, recently advocated for better pay for women in BJJ.

Ryan was drawn to her request and expressed his frustration with Davies’ comments.

“Turning this into a men vs. women thing is a joke. It’s like when the WNBA player talk about how they should be paid equally. But when they actually ran the math the players were being overpaid… The best women currently and in the past aren’t as physical or as technical as men. You can cry all you want, but that statement is a fact.”
