On September 23, 2024, American rapper Lil Durk announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he has cleared his criminal record. In his post, he emphasized the importance of second chances in life, stating:
“Everybody should get second chances at life. It’s about what you do with it. Alhamdulillah! My background wiped and clean of all cases. I ain’t a felon anymore. Who would have thought? I want to thank everyone who helped push my vision forward. Thank you from the bottom of my heart #THEVOICE.”
Previously, Lil Durk was linked to a shooting incident in Atlanta in 2019. In May of that year, the Atlanta Police Department informed Billboard about issuing an arrest warrant for him.
However, in October 2022, Channel 2 Action News reported that no charges were filed against Durk in relation to the 2019 shooting, where a 23-year-old man was shot outside The Varsity restaurant in Atlanta.
Durk turned himself in upon realizing he was wanted, but he has consistently proclaimed his innocence. Subsequently, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office dropped the charges based on “prosecutorial discretion.”
Lil Durk’s Legal History
It’s important to note that the 2019 allegations were not the first legal troubles for Lil Durk. In 2012, he was convicted for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He later pleaded guilty in 2014 to two firearm charges stemming from an arrest in 2013.
Sun-Times Media reported that Durk was arrested after police received reports of him being seen with a handgun. He was apprehended on the 7200 block of South Green Street.
According to court records, Durk pleaded guilty to a felony count for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and another count for the possession of a firearm, resulting in 18 months of probation and 50 hours of community service. In 2014, he expressed gratitude for his legal representation via Twitter, stating:
“Sam Adams JR great lawyer to have on your side il take probation anyday I don’t smoke or drink anyway.”
Following his previous charges, Durk faced accusations related to a separate shooting case in 2019, which were eventually dismissed. Recently, music producer Micah Foster filed a lawsuit against Durk and Chris Brown, alleging they stolen his beat for their collaboration “Till the Wheels Fall Off,”released in 2022.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Foster claims the beat was originally created in 2019, predating the collaboration. As of now, neither Chris Brown nor Lil Durk has publicly addressed the allegations.
