Eve Shares How Janet Jackson Saved Her Life After Being Drugged at 2007 VMAs After Party

Grammy-winning rapper Eve’s memoir, Who’s That Girl, was officially published on September 17, 2024. In this compelling memoir, the 45-year-old artist explores various facets of her life, including her rise to stardom and her lasting legacy. Notably, she recounts a terrifying incident that occurred back in 2007.

The incident details Eve being drugged at the 2007 VMAs after party, during which she was ultimately rescued by the legendary Janet Jackson. In her memoir, she shares:

“Missy (Elliott) came in to check on me, but I was just unable to collect myself. Then who walks in, Janet Jackson. I had never met her before, and so her first introduction to me was seeing me hysterical.”

Eve elaborates further, stating:

“None of that mattered to Janet; she actually just sprang into action and told people to get aspirin, water, hot sauce, and a piece of white bread. That concoction knocked me right out of my hysteria. So basically Janet Jackson saved my life.”

This isn’t the first time Eve has publicly discussed this alarming incident. In April 2018, she revisited the event during an episode of The Talk, highlighting Janet’s critical role in her recovery. Eve revealed that while her friends believed she was merely drunk, she sensed that something was seriously wrong.

Eve reflected on how she left her drink unattended on multiple occasions during the party, recanting:

“Probably an hour after the last time I picked my drink up, I started feeling crazy and not drunk.”

All About Eve’s New Memoir Who’s That Girl

As previously mentioned, Eve’s memoir Who’s That Girl hit the shelves recently. The title draws inspiration from a 2001 track by Eve of the same name. Hailing from Philadelphia, Eve’s memoir delves into her journey through fame and fortune.

In an exclusive interview with BET, published on the same day as her memoir’s release, Eve revealed that she had been approached to write a book some time ago but declined at that moment. She candidly shared:

“I wasn’t ready. I was like, ‘No, this is enough.’ It’s been a slow build ever since I was on The Talk. Taking that job required me to open up, which I had never really done before. You know, I wasn’t kinda open on my socials.”

“Someone said to me a long time ago, ‘What you reveal, can heal.’ I know it’s almost like a cliché thing to say but I do believe that. There was a lot of stuff that I was holding on to trying to navigate by myself and that was just not healthy.”

She also discussed her experiences collaborating with other artists, such as Nicki Minaj, while outlining the emotional challenges she faced by being “deeply honest.”

The memoir is now available in bookstores and can be purchased in hardcover format on Amazon for $20.99.
