While Atomfall may not be heavy on traditional combat encounters, players will still face challenges from various factions, including Outlaws, Druids, and Protocol Soldiers—with their merciless robotic companions. And let’s not forget the overwhelming presence of pesky rats!
Master the Gunsmith Skill for Weapon Enhancements
To effectively upgrade your firearms in Atomfall, the first step is to unlock the Gunsmith Skill. This aspect is crucial for players who rely on ranged combat. Be sure to conserve your Training Stimulants so you can access this feature within the Skills menu.
Upon achieving this skill, you can enhance your weapons using the crafting menu. The process requires two identical weapons, along with some necessary materials like gun oil and scrap metal. While melee weapon upgrades are not possible, they have their own unique set of skills to make close combat formidable.

Develop Melee Skills for Stealth Players
If stealth gameplay appeals to you or if you enjoy melee combat, consider focusing on the Melee Skills as they become available. Skills like Quiet Movement and Quiet Takedown are invaluable for covertly dispatching unaware enemies.
Another standout skill is Kill Momentum, which grants a melee damage boost after each successful takedown. This is particularly useful when stealth tactics fail, allowing players to efficiently fend off multiple attackers.
The Value of Stims and Painkillers
Combat Stimulants and Painkillers are critical resources that shouldn’t be overlooked. Their recipes can often be found scattered throughout the game, making them easy to craft. While it’s wise to use them conservatively to manage your resources, they are exceptionally helpful before entering dangerous zones like Skethermoor Prison or the Druid’s Camp, teeming with enemies.
The Combat Stim provides a significant melee boost, a great choice if ammunition runs low, while Painkillers offer defensive buffs against attacks. Additionally, unlocking the Buff Duration Skill extends the effectiveness of these items. You can also acquire abilities like Thick Skin, which decreases incoming melee damage, and several Conditioning Skills that enhance resistances to environmental effects, such as burn or poison.
However, remember that Training Stimulants are finite. Prioritize the skills that benefit your playstyle most, as there are consumables like the Burn Salve and Antidote that can help manage status effects in the meantime.
Engage Enemies Individually
In a challenging game like Atomfall, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. One useful tip is to engage enemies one at a time. This may sound elementary, but with the chaotic nature of combat, it’s common to face multiple foes simultaneously.
Try to isolate enemies by luring one or two away from their group. While doing this, ensure you are out of the line of sight of ranged attackers. Taking out these distant threats first can simplify your battles against melee opponents who are more inclined to charge at you.

Stock Up on Cloth and Alcohol
Another essential tip for navigating tougher levels is to maintain a healthy supply of cloth and alcohol. As you delve deeper into the game, it’s easy to overlook these fundamental resources. Having cloth on hand can be a lifesaver for crafting bandages when you’re in a pinch. The Deep Pockets Skill is also worth investing in, as it increases your carrying capacity for ammunition and crafting materials.
Whenever you venture into unexplored regions, ensure you carry at least a couple of bandages or First Aid Kits. Alternatively, stock up on materials to be able to create these items on the fly. You wouldn’t want to end up stuck in a dangerous area—like I did in the Medical Tunnels—due to a lack of healing supplies. Fortunately, I had enough materials to whip up a Strange Tonic, saving me from a precarious situation.
Don’t Be Afraid to Flee
Sometimes in games like Atomfall, exploring every nook and cranny isn’t feasible. If your primary goal lies ahead—like reaching a significant door or quest objective—don’t hesitate to bypass enemies. Allow yourself the chance to regroup and return later, perhaps after a refreshing cup of tea, which is an amusing feature in Atomfall!
Utilize Throwables Efficiently
Don’t underestimate the effectiveness of throwables such as grenades or molotovs in Atomfall. These items can easily catch groups of enemies off guard or help take down feral foes swiftly.
Enhance your throwable usage by prioritizing skills like Throwables Radius and Throwables Damage, which amplify the explosion’s area and damage, making tough enemy camps much easier to clear.
