Activision has announced a crucial new update for Call of Duty on both Steam and Battle.net, specifically targeting a disruptive blue screen error impacting players of Black Ops 6 and Warzone. While PC gamers on these platforms can access the fix immediately, those using the Microsoft Store will have to wait until February 5 for the update to be made available.

Since the launch of Season 2 on January 28, Treyarch Studios and Raven Software have been consistently pushing updates for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The last significant update before the February 4 release was on February 3, which introduced numerous bug fixes. Notably, Black Ops 6’s Ranked Play introduced a new vote-to-forfeit feature, while Warzone saw various weapon adjustments, including buffs for the Model L, KSV, and Feng 82, and a nerf to the Jackal PDW’s medium damage range.

Resolution of the Blue Screen Error

In response to rising player complaints, a follow-up update was swiftly deployed on February 4, resolving the blue screen issue that emerged after the February 3 patch. This serious bug had caused numerous players to experience abrupt PC restarts mid-game, significantly impacting their gaming experience. While the specific cause of the blue screens remains unclear, Activision confirmed via the COD Updates Twitter account that the fix is now live for Steam and Battle.net users, with Microsoft Store players scheduled to receive it on February 5.

Even with the prompt fix for the blue screen error, players have reported additional performance-related issues. A user on Reddit highlighted a new multiplayer map from Season 2 that drastically decreases frame rates for some Black Ops 6 players. They observed that breaking all glass panes on the Bounty map could drop frame rates from around 200 to just 60. Other players have echoed similar concerns, urging Treyarch Studios to provide a timely solution.

The performance challenges are not exclusive to Black Ops 6. Ahead of Season 2’s launch, Activision provided a community update indicating that Warzone would offer less content than initially expected for this season. The focus, instead, would be on game tuning, bug fixes, and enhancements to the overall gaming experience rather than introducing new content. As a result, Season 2’s launch primarily featured new Ranked Play rewards and just one new perk for Warzone players.
