Essential Nioh 3 Settings to Adjust Before You Start Playing

Nioh 3 marks a significant evolution within the long-established series, expanding on its foundation with a comprehensive range of enhancements. As the third installment in the franchise, it introduces an options menu that reflects both familiar elements and intriguing new additions, designed to enrich your gameplay experience.

You might perceive the extensive array of options as overwhelming; however, this plethora of settings empowers you with greater control over your game. If you envision an alternative gameplay approach, it’s likely there’s an option designed to accommodate that vision.

In this guide, we’ll delve into some of the most beneficial settings, outlining their functions and demonstrating how to modify them to suit your preferences.

Adjusting Lock-On Behavior

The default lock-on configuration in Nioh 3 is generally effective. Yet, depending on your experience with games in the Souls-like genre, some settings may take a bit of adjustment. A variety of configurations are available to manage lock-on functionality, including activation triggers, enemy prioritization, and button responses.

To access these settings, navigate to System > Basic Game Settings on page four. Here are the recommended adjustments:

Automatically Lock-on After Landing a Melee Attack: Set to ON.
Change Target When Lock-on Target is Defeated: Set to ON.
Reset Camera When Using Lock-on with No Target: Set to OFF.

Optimizing Item Pick-Up and Disposal Settings

Nioh 3 continues the series’ legacy of loot acquisition, with players frequently collecting a variety of items such as armor, weapons, and accessories. This aspect of the game becomes even more complex as you juggle a Samurai build alongside a Ninja build.

Fortunately, the game offers several features to alleviate the tedium associated with item management. While we’ve previously discussed how to utilize auto-equip in our Nioh 3 gameplay tips, there are additional settings worth considering to streamline your experience.

To modify these settings, go to System > Basic Game Settings, and look at page five for our suggested changes:

Item Auto Pick-up: Change to ON.

Now, on page six, consider implementing the following adjustments:

Include Crucible Weapons in Auto-Equip: Set to ON.
Automatically Dispose of Excess Equipment: Set to SELL.
Auto-Disposal Rarity: Set to Uncommon or Below.

Modifying Menu Functionality

The extensive settings menu also includes options that dictate gameplay mechanics and menu functions, making for a more effective experience.

Begin at System > Menu Settings, starting on page one, where we recommend these changes:

Auto-Refill Ammo from Storehouse at Shrines: Set to ON.
Automatically Use Acquired Locks of Hair: Set to ON.

Moving to page two, consider adjusting the following:

Number of Item Shortcuts: Change to 3 SETS.
Style Shift via Style Changes in Menus: Set to OFF.
Add Tabs for Each Weapon Type to the Items Menu: Set to ON.
Add Tabs for Accessories to the Items Menu: Set to ON.
Display Item Level (Not Main Stat) in Equipment List: Set to OFF.

On page three, we encourage these additional settings:

Display! in the Equipment Menu: Set to Only When Stronger than Equipped Item.
Register Shortcuts After Setting Soul Cores in the Onmyo Box: Set to OFF.

On page four, adjust these settings:

Purchase Confirmation, Tool Forging Confirmation, and Soul Matching Confirmation: Set to Don’t Confirm.

Pages four and five offer detailed settings that manage confirmation messages for various actions, including Offering, Resting Rites, Sale, Disassembly, Soul Extraction, and Donation. Each sub-page allows you to specify the rarity levels of items you can dispose of without confirmation, as well as preferences for batch actions.
