Three Iconic Musicians Halsey Channels for The Great Impersonator
As part of the promotional campaign for her forthcoming album, Halsey has been honoring several legendary musicians by recreating some of their most recognizable photos.
This concept echoes the claims on the album’s cover, where she portrays a character adept at blending “between the cracks of reality.”
“From now until the album launches on October 25th, I will impersonate a different icon each day and share a snippet of the song that was inspired by them,”stated Ashley Frangipane.
1) Dolly Parton
To kick off her series of tributes, Ashley channeled the “Queen of Country Music,”Dolly Parton, by recreating the cover of the star’s 1987 album Rainbow. Mimicking Parton’s style, the singer donned a fitted black and gold gown paired with a classic ’80s hairstyle.
While sharing her tribute, Halsey also revealed that the song “Hometown,”track nine on The Great Impersonator, draws inspiration from Dolly Parton’s musical legacy and her impact on Halsey’s artistry.
2) Dear
Ashley shared that this representation of Cher inspired the track “Letter to God (1974),”saying:
“One of my all-time favorite songs by Cher, ‘Dark Lady,’ topped the charts in 1974 and still reigns supreme in my heart.”
3) David Bowie
On the fifth promotional day for The Great Impersonator, Halsey took on the persona of David Bowie by recreating a well-known 1974 photograph of him in a striking yellow suit, holding scissors while smoking.
In her tribute, Ashley noted that the 11th track, “DARWINISM,” was inspired by the iconic musician, affectionately referring to Bowie as:
“Ziggy Stardust, The Starman, The Thin White Duke, The Picasso of Pop, Major Tom, The Master of Reinvention, and The Chameleon of Rock… David Bowie.”
With The Great Impersonator, Halsey follows up her successful 2021 album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which debuted at the top of Billboard’s Alternative Albums chart.
