ESRB Rating Live Indicates Black Myth: Wukong Release on Xbox Series X|S Soon
Developed by Game Science, the action-packed title, Black Myth: Wukong, has emerged as one of the standout releases of 2024. However, it notably did not launch on Xbox earlier this year. Initially, the game was set to debut on Xbox, along with PC and PlayStation 5 in August. Yet, in June, Game Science announced a delay for the Xbox version, causing disappointment among fans eagerly waiting for its release.
Recently, observant gamers discovered an ESRB listing that includes Black Myth: Wukong for Xbox Series X|S, in addition to the already available PC and PlayStation 5 editions.
The delay’s rationale stemmed from optimization challenges with the Xbox Series X|S, as shared by Game Science in June. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s response has indicated they cannot comment on arrangements made by partners with other console manufacturers, hinting at a different underlying reason for not launching the game simultaneously on Xbox.
The company has explicitly stated that the delay is not due to “limitations of the Xbox platform.”Despite ongoing speculation and rumors, there have been no definitive clarifications from either Game Science or Sony regarding the situation.
So far, Black Myth: Wukong has remarkably sold over 18 million copies within its initial two weeks, although the developer has not disclosed the breakdown of sales between PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) and PlayStation 5. Thanks to Steam’s player count features, it was revealed that the game experienced an incredible influx of players at launch, even breaking records for the highest number of concurrent users for a single-player game on the platform.
While the ESRB rating points towards a potential release for Xbox Series X|S, it’s essential to consider that this launch could still be several months away. Furthermore, Game Science has confirmed work is underway for an expansion pack, though specific details regarding this upcoming addition remain under wraps.
