Emma Kok: 16-Year-Old Dutch Singer Responds to Elon Musk’s Unauthorized Use of Pro-Trump Video
Emma Kok, a 16-year-old emerging talent from the Netherlands, publicly criticized Elon Musk after he shared a video that included her performance without her permission. The clip prominently showcased Kok during her rendition of “Voila.”
On October 28, Emma Kok expressed her concerns on X, clarifying her disassociation from the video’s political stance. She stated:
“I was featured in a video shared by Elon Musk without my consent or knowledge. As I am just 16 years old and not engaged in U.S. politics, I want to express my distance from this clip and its message.”
The contentious video promoted Donald Trump and included Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu alongside Emma Kok performing “Voila”at the outset. According to reports, it was originally created by Chris Wining before being reposted by Musk. Here’s the original version of the video:
Emma Kok gained attention after her captivating performance of the song “Voila,” which she delivered on the show Ministars (SBS6) in 2023. Her extraordinary rendition caught the eye of André Rieu, who invited her to join him on stage for his concerts. The two have since embarked on a worldwide tour together.
The performance of “Voila”during Rieu’s concert achieved viral success, amassing over 72 million views online. Together, they have also created the song “Dancing on the Stars,”which has enjoyed great popularity.
Emma Kok’s Rise to Stardom Following Her Viral “Voila”Performance
Emma Kok skyrocketed to fame at a young age, thanks to her collaboration with the renowned conductor and violinist André Rieu. He was captivated by her performance of “Voila”and invited her to play alongside him at his prestigious concert, held annually at Vrijthof in Maastricht.
Her rendition of “Voila”became a sensation online, with over 72 million views on YouTube and more than 45 million streams on Spotify. In recognition of her success, she received a diamond record award for surpassing 50 million streams. Looking ahead to 2024, Rieu invited Kok on a world tour with his Johann Strauss Orchestra.
Emma Kok and André Rieu also worked together on “Dancing on the Stars,”another project that quickly gained traction on YouTube. Kok plans to continue touring with Rieu in 2025. In addition to Rieu’s concerts, Kok has showcased her celebrated rendition of “Voila”alongside popular German artist Helene Fischer during her Christmas concerts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Since winning The Voice Kids Netherlands in 2012, Kok has been collaborating with Dutch songwriter and composer Tjeerd Oosterhuis, working on new musical endeavors.
Furthermore, Emma Kok is the founder of Gastrostars, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for finding a cure for gastroparesis, a condition she personally faces. Gastroparesis results in stomach paralysis and related digestive issues, as detailed on her official site.
