Embark CEO Promises Long-Term Support for THE FINALS; Praises Visuals of Battlefield 6

Insight from Embark Studios’ Patrick Söderlund on Game Releases

In a recent interview featured in EDGE Magazine’s issue 416, Patrick Söderlund, founder and CEO of Embark Studios, addressed the unique timing of his studio’s upcoming title, ARC Raiders, coinciding with the launch of Battlefield 6—both scheduled for release in the same month.

A Career Tied to Battlefield

Söderlund’s extensive history with the Battlefield franchise is noteworthy; he served as the CEO and later the Vice President and General Manager at DICE for over a decade. Reflecting on his past, he expressed excitement about how Battlefield 6 is shaping up, indicating that it appears to be in a strong position heading into its release.

“It is odd. I mean, we built Battlefield! But honestly, when I saw Battlefield 6 and what the team has done with it, I know how much time and energy has gone into it. I think it looks really good, and I’m very happy it does look good. It’s an IP and a game that deserves to be great. I want to play it. And I will play it – until the day we release ARC Raiders. And then I will play ARC Raiders instead.”

Contrasting Gameplay Experiences

Set to launch on October 30, ARC Raiders offers a distinct gaming experience as a PvPvE third-person extraction shooter. This contrasts with Battlefield 6, which maintains its identity as a first-person shooter with familiar mechanics. Notably, Embark Studios’ previous title, THE FINALS, shares more commonality with Battlefield, particularly with its focus on environmental destructibility.

Continued Support for THE FINALS

Since its release in December 2023, THE FINALS has experienced a mixture of challenges and successes. However, Söderlund reassured fans that Embark’s dedication to supporting the game spans well beyond its initial launch. He emphasized a long-term strategy:

“We take a 12-month approach, reviewing on an annual basis. In December 2024, it’d been out for a year, we sat down and said, ‘We’ll give it one more year and see what happens’.And then, relatively quickly, during the spring, we saw an uplift. So, right now, I don’t see a reason why we shouldn’t continue supporting it for the next five years, to be honest.”

The recent launch of Season 8 last month introduced new weapons and enhanced physics destruction, aimed at enriching the gameplay experience and engaging the community.
