Last night at the 2024 Attitude Awards, celebrated musician Sir Elton John brought attention to himself while receiving the esteemed Legacy Award.

On October 9, 2024, Elton John was honored with a significant Attitude Award, presented by Ed Sheeran and Vanessa Williams. During his acceptance speech, he took a jab at tech mogul Elon Musk, referring to him as an “a***hole.”—

“Is this the award? What does ‘A’ stand for? ‘A***hole’ comes to mind… but let’s not talk about Elon Musk tonight – let’s have a good time!”said Sir Elton.

This humorous remark stemmed from John’s observation of the “A” shaped award he was holding, playfully pondering its meaning.

The Attitude Awards, as reported by Connect Live, is a yearly event organized by Attitude magazine to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the LGBTQ+ community. The award’s “A”shape embodies the spirit of “Attitude”that defines this celebration.

Elton John’s playful jab at Elon Musk during the 2024 Attitude Awards

Elton John made a rare appearance in London on Wednesday evening to accept the Legacy Award at the Attitude Awards, recognizing his long-standing efforts in supporting those affected by AIDS.

The 77-year-old artist becomes the second individual ever to receive this award, following Princess Diana, who was honored posthumously in 2018. Prince Harry accepted the award on her behalf, highlighting her dedicated work in changing the narrative around HIV in the 1980s.

During the event, Elton humorously referred to Elon Musk as an ‘a***hole’ before gracefully shifting back to his own journey, sharing how winning this accolade provides him with a sense of peace:

“It’s been a long journey for me, with lots of ups and downs, and finally, peace of mind. Music saved me – whether in joy or despair,”Elton reflected.

Additionally, he expressed his dedication to the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) and his efforts to provide meals to those in need, stating —

“Instead of going out playing concerts, I delivered meals and saw what the real world was like. The EJAF became the real focus of my life,”Elton shared.

John proudly celebrated his sexual orientation, expressing love for his husband and children. He acknowledged the unexpected benefits of being part of the LGBTQ+ community and lauded the progressive laws of the country, showing his satisfaction with living in a place that champions rights for individuals like himself.

In his speech, Elton highlighted collaborative efforts with his husband, David Furnish, to create a stronger support system for those affected by AIDS. He mentioned that Furnish currently serves as the CEO and chairman of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and together they have raised an impressive $600 million for the cause.

Despite the light-hearted jab, there is no known personal dispute between John and Musk. However, in 2022, following Musk’s acquisition of X (formerly Twitter), Elton announced his departure from the platform, expressing concerns about its role in allowing “misinformation to flourish unchecked.” Musk remarked on John’s exit, questioning the misinformation the singer referred to.

As of this writing, Elon Musk has yet to respond publicly to Elton John’s comments made during the Attitude Awards.
