Technology mogul Elon Musk has recently come clean regarding his Path of Exile 2 gaming account, sharing in a new video that he has benefited from account boosting practices. This revelation has sparked discussions in the Path of Exile community, as Musk insists he has no regrets about his approach to gameplay.
Concerns about Musk’s gaming capabilities were first raised after he was removed from the game last December. The billionaire attributed his ejection to exceeding the action limits set by the anti-cheat software, claiming he had been playing fairly. He even shared a screenshot on X to support his assertion, splitting opinions among gamers between those who admired him and skeptics who questioned his integrity, doubts that seem to hold merit following his recent admissions.
Musk’s confessions came to light through YouTuber NikoWrex, who detailed their private messages in a recent video. When asked about level boosting—an action where someone else plays the account or purchases items using real money—Musk responded with a celebratory 100 emoji, emphasizing the widespread nature of such a practice in Asia. He went on to express that without these enhancements, it’s nearly impossible to compete effectively. Moreover, he admitted to similar account boosting related to his Diablo 4 gameplay, challenging his claims of being an elite player.

In the full video, which can be found here, Musk asserted that he is genuinely the player during his streamed sessions. When questioned about whether he would apologize to the Path of Exile 2 community, Musk curiously replied, “What would I be apologizing for?”
While Musk’s admissions may validate some ongoing skepticism about his gaming achievements, many in the gaming community—such as prominent Twitch streamer Asmongold—had expressed doubts long before. Asmongold challenged Musk to prove his skills, suggesting he would stream exclusively on X for a year, should Musk demonstrate legitimate gameplay. Instead, Musk chose to share DMs from their conversation, criticizing Asmongold’s gaming abilities. This exchange prompted Asmongold to label Musk’s comments as “uncalled for.”
Evaluating Musk’s Gaming Skills
Despite suspicions around his gaming competence, Elon Musk does have support from at least one source: his former partner, Grimes. She recently took to X to assert that she witnessed Musk become the first American druid to conquer the Abattoir of Zir and achieve a top-ranked status in the U.S. for that season. While Grimes’ endorsement might lend some legitimacy to Musk’s claims, the fact that he engaged in account boosting complicates the narrative surrounding his true gaming performance.
