Production Goals for the Optimus Robot

Musk’s vision includes the production of 50,000 to 100,000 units of the Optimus robot in 2026, with plans to significantly scale this to potentially 500,000 to 1 million units in 2027. This ambitious growth stems from discussions Musk had during a meeting with TSMC’s Chairman, CC Wei, where he indicated that Tesla’s future endeavors would increasingly focus on robotics rather than traditional automotive manufacturing.

Bank of America analyst John Murphy estimates that Tesla could deploy approximately 1,000 Optimus robots across its factories by the end of 2025, demonstrating a cautious yet optimistic outlook on Tesla’s transformative plans.

For context, the Optimus robot is designed with an AI-enhanced neural network that permits it to engage effectively with the environment. While the current prototype utilizes the AI4 chip, which is similar to the one powering Tesla’s FSD system, plans are in place to upgrade to the AI5 chip for commercial iterations.

According to Deutsche Bank, the Optimus initiative could generate an annual revenue of $10 billion by 2035. This figure assumes a sales volume of 200,000 units at an average selling price of $50,000, representing a more conservative estimate compared to Musk’s ambitious production targets.
