On October 18, Eleanor Calder, who previously dated Louis Tomlinson, took to her Instagram Stories to pay tribute to Liam Payne following his untimely death. The 32-year-old expressed her initial hesitation to share a public message about Payne, noting:
“I usually confront loss and grief privately, but it feels odd not to.”
Calder shared that Liam’s passing left a significant mark on her, stating:
“In recent years, Liam has been an incredible source of support for me, and I like to think I offered the same to him as well.”
She reflected on how Payne consistently checked in on her to make sure she was doing well and in good spirits. Talking about one of Liam Payne’s countless acts of kindness and creativity, Calder mentioned:
“He created paintings of my dogs and me to decorate the walls — he hoped it would help make the space feel homier.”
The 32-year-old expressed her wish that Liam’s life could have concluded on a different note.
According to CNN, Liam Payne, aged 31, tragically passed away after a fall from the third-floor balcony of his hotel suite at Buenos Aires’s CasaSur Palermo Hotel on Wednesday evening. Police reported that his body was discovered after hotel staff made an emergency call to the authorities.
In the wake of Payne’s death, fans, former bandmates from One Direction, and numerous celebrities took to various social media channels to honor the artist’s memory.

Eleanor Calder had a significant relationship with Louis Tomlinson from One Direction. Their romantic link became public in 2011, and by February 2013, they were making appearances together on the red carpet. They were together until 2015, when they initially parted ways. After their breakup, Tomlinson briefly dated stylist Briana Jungwirth, with whom he welcomed a son, Freddie, in 2016.
Tomlinson and Calder reunited in 2017. During a 2020 interview with The Sun, Tomlinson addressed rumors about their potential marriage:
