Overview of the Current Status of Elden Ring Nightreign’s Multiplayer Passwords
- Multiplayer passwords have been temporarily disabled during the Elden Ring Nightreign network tests for two consecutive days.
- Password matchmaking is expected to resume in the testing session scheduled for February 16.
- Although the decision to disable multiplayer passwords may have been related to issues in the Nightreign network test, FromSoftware has not provided a detailed explanation for this action.
Elden Ring Nightreign has seen a suspension of multiplayer passwords for two straight days, with indications that this restriction will be lifted on February 16. This measure may have been a response to the various challenges players encountered during the network test.
The inaugural network test for Elden Ring Nightreign commenced on February 14 at 6 AM ET (12 PM CET).While the scheduled session was designed to last for three hours, numerous players reported connectivity issues after approximately 20 minutes, leaving them unable to participate until the session concluded. Subsequent sessions over the following two days were somewhat more reliable but introduced additional limitations, one being the prohibition of multiplayer passwords on February 14.
On the following day, February 15, FromSoftware decided to maintain this restriction during the second session, which took place at 12:10 PM CET for Europe and Asia, and 6 AM ET for North America on February 16. The developer confirmed the continuation of the password ban in advance of the testing event, expressing gratitude towards players for their understanding regarding this inconvenience. However, FromSoftware did not disclose the specifics of why multiplayer passwords were disabled.
Multiplayer Password matchmaking will remain unavailable for this upcoming Test Session. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and support.— ELDEN RING (@ELDENRING) February 15, 2025
The Motivation Behind Disabling Multiplayer Passwords
While there has been no official announcement regarding the reasons behind the removal of multiplayer password features, various theories have emerged. Some players have noted on social media that the multiplayer password function may have intensified connectivity issues during the network tests. For instance, initial tests on February 14 experienced severe unresponsiveness with password-based matchmaking, a sentiment echoed by Game Rant’s preliminary assessments during that same session. Another speculation is that FromSoftware may have aimed to evaluate the performance of their servers under different conditions.

Expected Resumption of Multiplayer Passwords on February 16
The next scheduled network test for Elden Ring Nightreign will take place in Europe and Asia from 12 PM to 3 PM CET on February 16. As of now, FromSoftware has not indicated that this session will continue to have restrictions on multiplayer passwords, hinting that players may once again have access to this feature. However, it remains unclear if passwords will be supported during the final test session set for 4 AM CET on February 17.
Elden Ring Nightreign is set for release on May 30. The current network test is limited to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players, but the game will also be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC upon its full release. Moreover, based on preliminary feedback from these tests, FromSoftware is contemplating adjustments to the game to facilitate two-player party mode.
