As you embark on your quest to defeat the Nightlords in the Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll encounter the Shifting Earth Events. These are captivating zones scattered across the map that introduce unique challenges and offer generous rewards upon completion.
Previously, we explored tactics to navigate the treacherous Crater. Today, however, our focus shifts to the Rotted Woods, a vast forest area located in the southeastern section of the map. This location is not only rife with formidable field bosses but also heavily influenced by the dangerous Scarlet Rot ailment.
This guide will provide insights on unlocking the Rotted Woods Shifting Earth Event, detail the daunting trials you’ll face there, and lay out the precise steps necessary to complete the quest for the trophy or achievement.
Unlocking the Rotted Woods Shifting Earth Event

The Rotted Woods Shifting Earth Event becomes accessible after you successfully complete your third expedition in Nightreign. You can choose any expedition to hash out this requirement; for instance, I unlocked the event after defeating the Darkdrift Knight as my third Nightlord.
This area is situated on the southeastern edge of the map, covering a significant portion of Limveld. The defining feature of this event is the pervasive Scarlet Rot status ailment that impacts the entire region.
Although excitement may compel you to rush in, it is advisable to wait. Enter the Rotted Woods on the second day of your exploration when you’re more adequately prepared. The area is populated with a variety of challenging field bosses that can quickly overwhelm you without proper gear and strategy.
Completing the Rotted Woods Shifting Earth Event

In contrast to other Shifting Earth Events like the Crater or City of Noklateo, where specific guidance is essential, the Rotted Woods event stands out as one of the most straightforward to navigate. The primary challenges lie in the formidable field bosses rather than convoluted pathways.

Your initial goal is to proceed directly to the Fort within the Rotted Woods. It’s advisable to make a swift journey there, though be aware that you will accumulate the Rot ailment along the way. Fortunately, you can mitigate this by collecting red shrubs found beneath the glowing trees scattered throughout the area.
Inside the Fort, you’ll be free from the effects of Scarlet Rot, allowing you to eliminate enemies and confront the boss at the top. Make sure to loot the chest as well.Your main objective is to collect the Local Clues map in the upper chamber, as depicted in the image above.
Acquiring this map not only reveals nearby field bosses but also the location of the Rotted Woods Blessing. Note that the marked location may vary on your map compared to mine.
Once you’ve picked up the clue, head straight to the newly indicated spot. The blessing awaits you on a large flower bud. If you find yourself confused upon arrival, look up for a walkable path leading to the blessing on the flower, as illustrated in the previous image.
Upon claiming this blessing, you will receive the Favor of the Rotted Woods, granting immunity to Scarlet Rot, enhancing your maximum HP, and healing you when you strike back after sustaining any damage. You’ll also unlock the coveted Rotted Woods trophy/achievement.

Although this achievement may seem modest, offering only a passive buff, it holds significant value. This blessing enables you to tackle the formidable field bosses within the forest without the looming threat of Scarlet Rot weighing you down.
Depending on your team’s efficiency, it’s highly recommended to defeat all field bosses in the area. Not only will you accrue top-tier loot, but the abundance of Runes they drop allows for effective leveling, enhancing your journey towards the level cap.
This makes the Rotted Woods my preferred Shifting Earth Event among the four available in Nightreign; its straightforward approach, coupled with a wealth of bosses to conquer, ensures a rewarding experience filled with considerable Runes.
