This week in Elden Ring Nightreign, we see the introduction of the Everdark Sovereign Nightlords, with the Everdark version of Maris, Fathom of Night, making its grand return. While the initial Nightlord had its share of acclaim due to its visually stunning battle mechanics, the revamped version has evoked mixed feelings among fans, myself included.
However, let’s dive straight into the heart of the matter. In today’s guide, I’ll be sharing effective strategies and preparations vital for conquering the Everdark Sovereign Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign.
Optimal Team Compositions

Having tested the new Duos mode, the recommended team compositions detailed below are effective in both Duos and standard Trios mode.Take note of which characters excel in each configuration.
- Raider: After facing defeat twice, I managed to triumph over Maris in Duos mode utilizing two Raiders. This character boasts impressive HP, complemented by skills that absorb damage even in critical situations. It’s essential to seek out boons that enhance his stamina and poise.
- Wylder: Equipped with a clawshot skill, Wylder excels in traversing the sprawling battlefield, especially when dodging Maris’s explosive bubble assaults. Although landing his Ultimate Art can be challenging, his overall stats support versatility in combat.
- Guardian: A great pick for this encounter! With high endurance and health, this character can also utilize the Ultimate Art to revive fallen teammates during the fight.
In summary, opt for Nightfarers with elevated HP levels, as this battle primarily tests stamina and resilience. While characters like Revenant can be useful, squishy options like Ironeye might struggle significantly.
Key Differences in Everdark Sovereign Augur
The Everdark Sovereign version of Augur presents a unique twist that largely nullifies conventional weapon strategies. If you’re familiar with the Yhorm battle in Dark Souls 3 or the Serpent Hunter encounter with Rykard in Elden Ring, you’ll recognize the pattern here.
When you defeat the initial low HP version of base Maris, it grants your team access to a weapon imbued with the Storm Ruler Ash of War. Activating this Ash of War—by pressing L2 or LT—unleashes magical slash projectiles at the expense of FP.
Crucially, like the Storm Ruler in Dark Souls 3, holding L2 or LT allows for a charged-up horizontal crescent attack, which inflicts more damage and refills your FP.

Utilizing this Ash of War is imperative for inflicting damage against Maris, as conventional weaponry is largely ineffective. Expect the battle to drag on in a three-player team; however, it becomes manageable in Duos or solo runs.
Once Maris dips below a third of its health, it summons a meteor collar around itself. Breaking these meteors or orbs mitigates laser attacks, and demolishing all of them will stagger the boss, allowing for critical hits.
Everdark Sovereign Augur Moveset

Similar to the other Nightlords and their variants, I’ll outline the primary attacks executed by Everdark Sovereign Augur in this section.
For clarity, I will not be addressing the base form Augur, which possesses low HP and should be easily defeated.
This phase involves fewer attacks compared to past Everdark Nightlords. The most recurrent move is the Meteor Shower, while other attacks are relatively straightforward for this gimmick battle.
Moveset |
Description |
---|---|
Rushing Charge |
Augur will charge in a directed manner; this attack is easy to evade due to its predictability. |
Meteor Shower |
Maris showers an area with meteorites that detonate after a brief delay, causing consistent damage. |
Tidal Wave |
Maris unleashes a sizable bubble that slowly inflicts damage, easily avoidable by sidestepping. |
Sleepy Time |
Similar to the base form attack, Maris curls up, inducing sleep status nearby. Maintain distance or interrupt with Storm Ruler attacks. |
Eruption Beam |
Maris targets a player with a laser beam that explodes after a time. This can eliminate low-defense characters, necessitating precise timing to dodge. |
Meteor Lasers |
Meteor collars fire lasers. Destroy the meteors to weaken their attacks, especially when they accompany other moves. |
Conquering Everdark Sovereign Augur
Preparation & Base Form Augur

Similar to our recent battle against the enhanced Sentient Pest, the encounter with Everdark Sovereign Augur should be reasonably straightforward, as covered in earlier sections of this guide.
To reiterate, your loadout will have minimal impact. Harness the power of the Evergaol Relic to gain a +5% attack boost for each Evergaol prisoner defeated in earlier days.Additionally, boons that enhance resistance to magical attacks will prove invaluable.
It’s advisable to activate the Noklateo Shifting Earth Event’s favor to enable auto-revival upon death, as many online teammates frequently run out of flasks towards the fight’s conclusion.
Begin by defeating the base form of Augur. While my team composition might suggest otherwise, characters like Wylder or Raider can deal substantial damage to this form due to its low health, taking under a minute to dispatch.
Everdark Sovereign Maris, Fathom of Night

To be succinct about the strategy: micromanagement is crucial depending on the character and their FP. Although it can be refilled with the Storm Ruler charge attack, you remain vulnerable to damage, so vigilance is key.

The Meteor Shower will be an enduring challenge in this encounter. However, as a Raider, I could withstand significant damage without heavy losses, while Guardian players can effectively guard against this attack.

Make the most of Storm Ruler’s light attacks while restricting the charged version’s use to times when Maris is grounded or engaged in sleep build-up.
This battle can be taxing, as Maris employs frequent movement and AOE attacks. The encounter may last 10 to 15 minutes with three players due to damage scaling.
Second Phase
Approximately one-quarter through the battle, Maris will generate five meteors that periodically unleash lasers while simultaneously executing regular attacks.Target these meteors with the Storm Ruler’s projectiles, or they will become overwhelming.
Exercise patience; wait until Maris isn’t aggroed before attempting to eliminate the meteors. The projectiles have adequate tracking to destroy the orbs relatively easily.
Once Maris is stunned and falls, this is your moment for dealing significant damage with charged-up Storm Ruler slashes.Prioritize damage output over attempting a riposte. Continue to capitalise on the Storm Ruler’s attacks and replenish FP via the charged attack.

Upon your first successful defeat of Everdark Sovereign Augur, you’ll earn x25 Sovereign Sigils.Afterwards, visit the Collector Signboard Merchant at the Roundtable to acquire the Dark Night of the Fathom relic, as displayed in the image above.
