At this juncture, you may want to point out my depicted obsession with the Elden Ring: Nightreign. However, I can’t overlook how my friends enthusiastically engage me in runs, making each experience a delightful event.
With that being said, it’s time to gear up for another thrilling encounter against a formidable Nightlord. Our target is none other than the Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog, affectionately known as the dragon Caligo.
This guide aims to equip you with valuable insights on Caligo’s latest abilities, effective team compositions, and strategic approaches to conquering this fearsome enemy, including a breakdown of its new mechanics.
Optimal Team Compositions

Having the right team composition is critical, as emphasized in my earlier guides on defeating Everdark Nightlords. Here’s my recommended lineup for this encounter:
- Wylder: An indispensable character for this battle. As a dragon from FromSoftware, Caligo is highly mobile. With Wylder’s Clawshot ability, players can swiftly close the distance and avoid her imposing AOE mist attacks. His versatile stats allow for the effective usage of weapons such as the Blasphemous Blade and Mohgwyn’s Spear.
- Ironeye: While Ironeye can be somewhat fragile, he holds a critical function in this fight, especially in breaking Caligo’s crystallized armor. Deploying two Wylders can facilitate Weakening Mark breaks. If you manage to secure a fire-affinity bow, your chances of success will significantly improve.
- Recluse: Though not typically my top pick, her ability to maintain distance while casting spells, including fire-based options, makes her a viable choice for this encounter.
These recommendations are flexible, and I encourage you to use characters that suit your playstyle. In my experience, leveraging Ironeye allowed my team to focus damage on specific body parts of Caligo, which is crucial given her new mechanics.
Distinct Features of Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog

To be frank, the Everdark Sovereign iteration of Caligo presents one of the most intricate challenges among enhanced bosses, necessitating substantial preparation prior to engagement.
Key distinctions involve her heightened frostbite attacks and the introduction of crystallized armor on her primary body parts: head, torso, tail, and wings. Breaking these armor segments not only inflicts extra damage but also amplifies her susceptibility to poise breaks, leading to valuable stagger damage.
It’s advisable to have a dedicated Ironeye target the wings, as melee classes will find it challenging to land hits on them effectively.
Preparation Strategies for Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog

Let’s approach the necessary preparations and loadout in a detailed manner, as these elements can significantly impact the outcome of your fight.
First and foremost, activating the Mountaintop Shifting Earth Event is crucial for two reasons: it provides accessible boons for frostbite resistances, which are essential for stacking defensive buffs. Preferably, opt for this reward unless a tempting weapon presents itself during your runs.
For an optimal route, follow this sequence: Strike the Frost Ruins > Flying Dragon > Demi-Human Swordmaster > Acquire Mountaintop Favor > Mountaintop Ice Dragon > Giant Crows > loop back for another swordmaster > and face the duo Ice Trolls.
The second reason stems from needing the mountaintop favor, which significantly reduces frostbite damage and buildup — an essential aspect when facing Caligo, especially in her enhanced state.
Lastly, securing fire-affinity weapons is non-negotiable, as they are vital for effectual damage output, particularly in co-op play. Fortunately, my teammates were fortunate in obtaining optimal weapons like the Blasphemous Blade and the Magma Wyrm sword without depending on fire-affinity camps on the map.
Moveset of Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog

Caligo’s basic form was already formidable, and her Everdark transformation elevates the challenge. Below, I have outlined the critical new attacks from the Everdark Sovereign version.
This section will exclusively highlight the novel attacks accompanying the Everdark Sovereign form.
Moveset |
Description |
---|---|
Crystal Form Transition | During its transformation, Caligo unleashes a short-range AOE explosion. Evacuate the area to avoid damage. |
Ice Pillar Explosion | Caligo creates an icy pillar and detonates it, resulting in an AOE frostbite explosion. The damage output is manageable with sufficient resistance. |
Unlimited Ice Works | In this enhanced attack, Caligo fires ice shards from its wings and may crash down multiple times. Caution is advised to avoid significant framerate drops. |
Icicle Wing Blast | This attack releases an icy gust in front, with a clear wind-up, allowing players to evade by sidestepping or repositioning behind it. |
Ice Tail Wave | Caligo sprays icy mist, then lashes down its tail, generating waves of icicles. Players need to remain alert to avoid damage from the resulting blasts. |
Downward Ice Breath | In this relatively straightforward attack, Caligo exhales a frosty breath that can rapidly accumulate frostbite. Evacuation from close range is necessary. |
Strategies for Defeating Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog
First Phase

Initially, you’ll contend with the regular version of Caligo. She always initiates combat with her icicle barrage, so be prepared to dodge that onslaught effectively.
It’s essential not to exhaust your healing flasks during this early phase, as conserving your resources will be vital for surviving the Everdark segment.
Caligo’s health pool is notably inflated in both duo and trio settings. While progress may feel slow, don’t rush; you’ll trigger the Everdark phase once she reaches 60% health.
Second Phase

Welcome to the Everdark Sovereign phase. Here, Caligo transforms into a crystallized armored form, necessitating targeted damage to weaken her armor.
To reiterate, properly stacking frost resistance will render frostbite effects minimal during this phase, making it less of a concern unless overwhelmed with attacks.
Be vigilant of the ice crystals created on the ground, as grazing them will also contribute to frostbite accumulation.
A key strategy: Successfully breaking all of Caligo’s armored parts can trigger a significant poise break, allowing players to inflict a considerable amount of stagger damage.
Ideally, ranged characters such as Ironeye or Recluse should target the wings and tail, whereas melee fighters should concentrate on the torso and head to effectively manage aggro.
Conservation of stamina throughout the encounter is crucial for quickly repositioning or evading Caligo’s devastating AOE attacks.
When treated correctly with fire-infused damage, you may successfully apply a weakening effect on her, denoted by an orange glow.
Rewards

Upon conquering the Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog, your reward includes 25x Sovereign Sigils for your initial victory and access to the Dark Night of the Miasma relic, obtainable at the Collector Signboard Merchant within the Roundtable Hold.
This relic is quite useful, particularly for Executors who utilize frost and bleed effects effectively against formidable adversaries. While there may be superior options obtainable through RNG, it remains a valuable addition to your arsenal.
