Engaging in several expeditions in Elden Ring Nightreign, whether alongside friends or uncoordinated random players, may pique your curiosity about the Nightfarers you assume control of. Understanding their backgrounds can enhance your gameplay experience.
Even if the lore doesn’t captivate you, pursuing their remembrances through the Journal offers valuable rewards, including character-specific relics that enhance your Nightfarers’ abilities. These quests aren’t overly complex and typically require you to divert slightly from your regular paths during expeditions.
If you struggle to assemble a coordinated team, consider tackling these quests solo, as they can still yield significant benefits.
Chapter 3 – The First Outing
In Chapter 3 of the Wylder Journal, you’ll encounter your first expedition-specific mission. Acquiring Memory fragments can prove to be challenging since they’re not conventional items to collect.
To increase your chances of obtaining these fragments, defeat Field Bosses, participate in Raids, and engage with Nightlords. Notably, you’re more likely to receive a fragment when you conquer a previously unbeaten Nightlord.
Interestingly, I received a memory fragment simply by reaching a Nightlord without defeating it, emphasizing that completing the entire expedition isn’t strictly necessary. It’s essential, however, to finish prior remembrance chapters before progressing to the next ones, as you can’t acquire a character’s fragments all at once. Hence, ensure you utilize the opportunities presented to maximize your rewards!
By consistently playing as a specific Nightfarer, you will gradually accumulate the required fragments. Many quests necessitate vanquishing various bosses, making it beneficial to defeat multiple Nightlords to ease future challenges.
Here is a step-by-step guide to completing the Wylder’s Rememberance Quest:
- Begin by locating the Iron Menial in the adjoining room of the Journal. Engage in dialogue until he tasks you with retrieving a whetstone from the Limveld mines.
- Ensure you’re still in Remembrance mode and initiate an expedition, solo or with teammates.
- Look for mines marked red on your world map, leading you to your objective.
- Navigate through the mines until you reach a spacious wooden platform area.
- Underneath this platform lies the whetstone; however, it is guarded by a Crystalian enemy. Utilize a blunt weapon or break his stance for maximum damage, which is feasible even in early gameplay.
- Retrieve the Slate whetstone and return to the Iron Menial.
- Acquire the earring, then proceed to the adjacent long room. Hold the earring up in the light shaft.
- Show the earring to the duchess to finalize this part of the remembrance. A vibrant spiral of light will reveal itself next to her, or you can complete the quest manually from the journal.
Remember, defeating the Nightlord isn’t essential once you have the required item.You merely need to survive or die. Avoid quitting the match abruptly, as it will reset your progress.
Upon completing this remembrance, you will unlock a new relic, the Slate Whetstone, which is pivotal for performing enhanced attacks following the Wylder’s Clawshot ability. This enhancement is applicable solely when using a Greatsword, so be sure to choose your weapons wisely.
The whetstone stands out as one of the premier relics for the Wylder, proving vital as you advance through the game, especially against bosses vulnerable to fire damage.
Chapter 5 – The Scavenger Hunt
This chapter diverges from the typical format, as it does not necessitate an expedition.All activities occur within the Roundtable Hold. If you lack the memory fragments, continue with expeditions until you unlock them.
Within the Roundtable Hold, you can access the map similarly to when you’re on an expedition. Use fast travel options to swiftly reach locations, mitigating the need to explore on foot.
- Begin in the room opposite the Journal, where the Visual Codex resides.
- Activate the three glowing spots found on three scattered books in the room; they are quite visible. This action will open a nearby door.
- Descend the stairs in the same room, turning around to discover a door leading to an ash-white crypt.
- Communicate with the Iron Menial, and investigate the inscriptions on the tombs.
- After exhausting his dialogue, he will reveal that the duchess is imprisoned within the hold.
- Locate her on the beach in front of the Roundtable Hold. Engage in dialogue and choose the “Are you trapped here?” option.
- A spiral of light appearing will signal the completion of this remembrance.
Chapter 7 – The Raid On Noklateo
This chapter may pose challenges due to the mixed insights regarding its initiation.
You must have defeated at least four Nightlords for this fragment to unlock; it’s uncertain whether this specifically necessitates utilizing the Wylder, but I did so successfully.
Before commencing this remembrance, ensure you have the “Shifting Earth Event: Noklateo“activated to explore the Ruined City for the Quest item.
- Upon awakening, locate the letter on the table, which will provide a key.
- Return to the Crypt from the previous chapter. After descending the stairs, turn left around the corner to find the chest you need to unlock.
- This chest contains a Torn Out Paper Scrap. Ascend back up, find the Recluse, and engage in dialogue. Your choices here do not seem to influence outcomes; she will instruct you to locate a Silver Tear to rescue the Duchess.
- Proceed to the Expedition room and converse with the Iron Menial, who will elaborate on Noklateo. The Shifting Earth Event must be active here.
- Embark on an expedition, and when the second day begins, well-equipped and leveled, head to the city.
- Navigate through the city while evading enemies to maximize your duration until you reach a set of waterfalls; advance past the staircase.
- Beyond the Site of Grace, engage and eliminate a Black Knife Assassin.
- Traverse a tunnel, take a left turn, and face a Mimic Troll, which should be manageable. Utilize the Wylder’s Stake Ultimate to stance-break him, collect the Silver Tear resting atop a coffin, and either complete the expedition or perish, then return to the Iron Menial to conclude Chapter 7.
Continuing through Noklateo, you will confront The Natural Born of the Void. Those familiar with Astel and his twin from Elden Ring will find themselves well-equipped for this battle. After vanquishing this formidable foe, you will receive the Favor of Noklateo, providing a free revive and a power enhancement to support your expedition.
Completing this chapter gives access to a remembrance outfit, alongside the opportunity to wield the Silver Tear as a relic. This relic boosts your ultimate Art Gauge and accelerates its fill rate with ability usage, plus it offers a +3 arcane stat boost. This relic is a fantastic choice to equip on the Wylder for upcoming expeditions.
Chapter 9 – The Final Battle
The final chapter demands access to the ultimate boss, the Night Aspect. Prior to undertaking this venture, make sure to have the Silver Tear equipped at the relic altar to avoid failure in the chapter, which will prevent the final cutscene even if you defeat Heolstor.
- Equip the Silver Tear along with other advantageous Relics for combating the Night Aspect.
- Commence an expedition, focusing your build around Holy Damage, as Heolstor is notably vulnerable to it. A well-prepared team should facilitate a smoother battle.
- Upon defeating Heolstor, you’ll transition to a separate desert region where he awaits. Move closer and interact to initiate the concluding cutscene.
For those experiencing this final encounter for the first time, rewards include the Night of the Lord Relic, the Sacred Erdtree Grail to alter your relic setup, and additional costumes for purchase. The Artorias skin is undeniably an impressive addition!
Furthermore, you will receive the Wylder’s Earring Relic, assisting the Wylder in stamina regeneration upon each successful attack and enabling area-wide fire damage with the Ultimate art. For those focusing on the Wylder, this relic is an essential acquisition.
