On October 8, Napoli Matfia posted a selfie with the renowned Korean-American chef, where he took a moment to apologize for remarks made during the show.
During episode 12, viewers witnessed a tense face-off where Kwon asserted he would “crush”Chef Lee, a statement that sparked discomfort among many online users. Subsequently, Kwon extended a formal apology to Edward for his earlier comments.
Chef Lee is a celebrated veteran in the culinary world, recognized for his exceptional skills. He gained fame as the champion of Iron Chef America and has served as a judge on the show Culinary Genius featuring Gordon Ramsay. Furthermore, he is the author of acclaimed cookbooks such as ‘Smoke and Pickles’ and ‘Buttermilk Graffiti.’
Additionally, some audience members believed the White Spoon Chef had deserved to win the competition. In light of the backlash directed at Kwon Seong-joon, Edward Lee acknowledged his opponent’s apology while recognizing his victory.
He stated,
“Chef, you earned the win, and always maintain your confidence. It’s a competition, and we are all here to triumph. Apologies aren’t necessary. Congrats!”

On October 9, Kwon Seong-joon, recognized as the winner of Culinary Class Wars, has built a reputation for his love of Italian cooking, gaining considerable attention through his culinary creations during the Netflix competition.
Following the finale, Kwon faced criticism for his perceived disrespectful comments towards Edward Lee. He advanced directly to the final round after successfully completing the Cook Your Life mission. Prior to the last challenge, he remarked:
“Seeing you two (Triple Star, Edward Lee) brings me relief. I feel I can easily overpower you. I’ll dominate whoever stands in my way.”
On October 8, Napoli Matfia took to social media to contemplate his actions while offering his apologies to the fellow finalist.
He said,
“Watching myself on television illuminated many of my arrogant traits and shortcomings, becoming a moment of reflection. Although my comments about Chef Edward were nearly all cut from the show, I mentioned in an interview how I was genuinely impressed by Chef Edward’s creativity and spirit during the tofu challenge that I had the privilege to witness firsthand.”
He continued to apologize for his remarks directed at the Korean-American chef in the competition while explaining his original intentions.
He commented,
“My statement, ‘I’ll trample on you,’ aimed to motivate everyone to persevere and not give up during the final stages when fatigue set in. However, it came across as arrogant and reckless, deviating significantly from my original intention. I sincerely apologize once more.”

The two leading contestants, Edward Lee from the White Spoon Team and Napoli Matfia from the Black Spoon Team of Culinary Class Wars, have been invited as guests on the show You Quiz on the Block. Highlights of their appearance along with hosts Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho have been teased on October 9.
