Early PassMark Results Show Ryzen 5 9600 Performs Similarly to Ryzen 5 9600X in Single and Multi-Core Benchmarks

The AMD Ryzen 5 9600 processor closely matches its counterpart, the Ryzen 5 9600X, in terms of performance due to their shared specifications.

Performance Benchmarks: Ryzen 5 9600 Scores 29, 369 Points in CPU Mark

Launched just last month, the Ryzen 5 9600 comes with a price tag that is approximately $20 lower than the Ryzen 5 9600X. While its availability remains limited, the similarities between the two processors indicate that the 9600 may not surpass the popularity of the 9600X.

It is important to note that both processors share a 6-core, 12-thread architecture, a 32 MB L3 cache, and a default thermal design power (TDP) of 65W. The primary distinction lies in their clock speeds: the Ryzen 5 9600 has a base clock that is 100 MHz slower and a boost clock that is 200 MHz slower compared to the 9600X.

Initial benchmarks indicate that the Ryzen 5 9600 remains competitive with the Ryzen 5 9600X across both single and multi-threaded tests. The most recent PassMark results for the Ryzen 5 9600 show a score of 29, 369 points in multi-threaded tasks and 4, 433 in single-core tasks. It’s worth noting that only four samples have been tested so far, which means that additional testing could yield more precise results.

In contrast, the Ryzen 5 9600X achieved scores of 30, 016 and 4, 581 points respectively, highlighting a performance difference of -2.2% in multi-threaded and -3.2% in single-threaded contexts for the 9600. Both processors offer overclocking potential, allowing users to minimize the performance gap; however, the 9600X similarly benefits from overclocking capabilities. When compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 7600, the Ryzen 5 9600 demonstrates an approximate 8.5% improvement in multi-threaded performance and 13.4% in single-core tasks, reflecting a significant enhancement over prior models.

Pricing for the Ryzen 5 9600 is expected to hover around $200, aligning it closely with the Ryzen 9600X, which is typically found under $250. While the Ryzen 5 9600 may not attract gamers extensively, there are indications that an X3D variant is in the works. Although not officially announced, rumors suggest that AMD is preparing a Ryzen 5 9600X3D, potentially replacing the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, although its availability might be limited to select retailers.

Looking ahead, AMD has a history of releasing non-X variants after initial launches and continues to develop new processors compatible with the AM4 socket. Anticipated releases may include models such as the Ryzen 9700, 9900, and 9950. With the X3D variants already on the market, it’s likely that AMD is focusing on other enhancements.
