eaJ Criticizes RIIZE OT6 Fans for Sending Disgusting Funeral Flowers to Seunghan
On October 17, 2024, former Day6 member eaJ shared his views regarding the troubling circumstances involving Seunghan, a former member of RIIZE. He criticized the OT6 fanbase for sending disturbing death wreaths to the young artist. Quoting a tweet addressed to him, he expressed:
“The funeral flowers were disgusting. The same individuals who sent them will be the first to express grief online over the tragic outcomes they could’ve influenced. God forbid tragedy strikes, but I’ve faced a similar situation before, and it was chilling. The trauma inflicted on someone so young is unimaginable.”
For those who may not be aware, on October 11, 2024, following Seunghan’s announcement of his return to RIIZE, he faced severe backlash from the Korean fanbase of RIIZe. To express their disdain, they sent death wreaths accompanied by messages such as “Pray for the peace of the deceased,””RIIZE is six,”and “Hong Seunghan Out.”
Former Day6 Member eaJ Shows Support for Seunghan
eaJ vehemently criticized those who sent death wreaths, emphasizing the potential consequences of wishing harm upon individuals. He shared his compassion for Seunghan, relating to his own brush with potentially disastrous outcomes.
Furthermore, he went as far as advocating for legal action against those responsible for the death wreaths, suggesting they should be prosecuted for attempted murder.
“Anyone participating in sending those flowers should be charged with attempted murder, as that is precisely what it was.”
eaJ’s remarks stirred a range of reactions among K-pop enthusiasts, with some believing he was simply seeking attention. Nonetheless, many fans and other users rallied in defense of his statements.
“You want artists to voice their concerns until one with actual experience does. Jae has consistently spoken about the significance of mental health, the harmful aspects of parasocial relationships, and the issues with record labels. Kudos to him for raising awareness,”a user commented.
eaJ (formerly known as Jae) appeared as a guest on the Zach Sang Show in September 2024. When questioned about his feelings regarding Day6’s recent album Fourever, he candidly admitted, “It kinda hurt,”as he felt like he was being “erased”from the group’s narrative.
During the interview, the Car Crash’s vocalist revealed that watching Day6 content is challenging for him, as it brings back memories of his struggles. He also discussed his difficult experiences in South Korea and his ongoing battle with anxiety.
As a mental health advocate, the singer of LA Trains has been open about his struggles with panic disorder and initiated the ‘From Friends’ project, which raised $100,000 for the Jed Foundation to support free mental health resources. Many of his musical works and albums reflect his mental health journeys, including Laughing In Insomnia (2023) and Medicated Insomnia (2023).
In May 2020, following the launch of Day6’s sixth EP The Book of Us: The Demon, JYP Entertainment announced a hiatus for the members. Both Jae (now known as eaJ) and Park Sungjin were encouraged to pause their professional activities. eaJ departed from the group in 2021, and currently, Day6 continues as a four-member ensemble featuring Sungjin, YoungK, Wonpil, and Dowoon.
After facing backlash from Korean fans, SM Entertainment announced Seunghan’s departure from RIIZE the following day, on October 13. This decision led to worldwide protests against the perceived unfair dismissal of the artist. Fans globally have taken action by boycotting RIIZE’s merchandise and activities.
Recently, numerous international K-pop merchandise suppliers have joined the cause, halting the distribution and sale of RIIZE’s albums and products.
