Electronic Arts Acquires TRACAB’s Advanced Tracking Technology
In a significant move today, Electronic Arts (EA) announced its acquisition of TRACAB Technologies, a frontrunner in advanced sports optical tracking and analysis solutions. This strategic partnership aims to enhance the realism and precision of upcoming EA SPORTS titles by integrating TRACAB’s cutting-edge technology.
Enhancing Realism in EA SPORTS Games
With this acquisition, EA plans to harness TRACAB’s capabilities, which include advanced artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and real-time sports data analysis. Such integration promises to revolutionize the way sports are simulated in video games, creating experiences that mirror real-world athletic action with unprecedented accuracy.
“Our EA SPORTS games are becoming living, breathing simulations of sport, and TRACAB’s cutting-edge technology and expertise in real-time data capture and analysis will enable us to enhance realism, immersion, and engagement in all our experiences, ”says Cam Weber, President of EA SPORTS.
Future Applications Beyond Gaming
Beyond gaming applications, EA SPORTS envisions a broader scope for TRACAB’s technology, particularly with the goal of establishing the EA SPORTS app as the premier interactive sports platform globally. The acquisition is projected to conclude within EA’s first fiscal quarter of FY26, coinciding with the rising popularity of its sports franchises, including the recently launched EA Sports College Football 25.
“Joining EA SPORTS marks an exciting new chapter for TRACAB Technologies. Our mission has always been to push the boundaries of sports data and analysis, and with EA SPORTS’ vast resources and vision for innovation, we’re confident that we can create even more immersive and dynamic experiences for sports fans around the world, ”says Martin Brogren, GM of TRACAB Technologies.
Understanding TRACAB’s Innovative Technology
For those unfamiliar, TRACAB’s technology captures extensive live data, tracking nearly every movement on the field at a rate of 60Hz per second. This process generates approximately 600 million data points per game, including 65 unique data points for each player and referee. By capturing data from 21 joints on every player, this system offers a new level of realism, facilitating more dynamic animations and real-time simulations.
Future Prospects and App Enhancements
The partnership is expected to yield not only improved gameplay but also new features in the EA SPORTS app, where fans will have opportunities to create and share highlight reels and predictive gameplay simulations.
Currently, the EA SPORTS App is operational in Spain, with plans underway to extend its availability to additional regions worldwide, further broadening the engagement of sports enthusiasts globally.
