Koei Tecmo has recently announced a significant achievement for Dynasty Warriors Origins, confirming that over 1 million copies have been sold across all platforms globally. In addition to this impressive sales figure, the demo version of the game has been downloaded more than 2 million times, signaling strong interest among players.
Noteworthy Achievements and Streaming Popularity
These milestones come on the heels of another exciting announcement from Sony Interactive Entertainment, which revealed that Dynasty Warriors Origins was the most downloaded game for the PS5 in Japan in January 2025. This resurgence in popularity has not only boosted sales but has also renewed the franchise’s visibility within the gaming community.
Growth of the Franchise
As of July 2024, Koei Tecmo noted that all entries in the Dynasty Warriors series have collectively sold over 22 million copies. With the addition of the most recent million sales from Dynasty Warriors Origins, the series’ total sales now stand at an impressive 23 million.
A Glimpse into the Series’ History
The Dynasty Warriors franchise experienced its pinnacle during the PlayStation 2 era, with titles such as Dynasty Warriors 3, Dynasty Warriors 4, and Dynasty Warriors 5 each surpassing 1 million copies sold in Japan. However, the games that followed on the PlayStation 3 and subsequent platforms did not achieve similar success. For instance, Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires, released in 2009 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, managed to sell over 430, 000 units globally. Later, Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, which launched on multiple platforms in 2022, could only reach 280, 000 copies sold as of March 2022.
