Dying Light: The Beast – Complete Guide to the Yaga Sidequest

Within the captivating realm of Castor Woods in Dying Light: The Beast, players encounter a myriad of characters, each presenting unique challenges. Among these is the Hunting Yaga sidequest, a task that promises to test your skills under the cover of night.

Overview of the Hunting Yaga Sidequest

Located in the Abandoned House Safe Zone within the National Park District, this high-level sidequest is initiated by Max, who instructs Crane to track down a uniquely fearsome infected known as Yaga. The catch? This hunt can only commence after sundown.

To assist you in navigating this daunting mission, I’ve crafted an extensive guide to the Hunting Yaga sidequest in Dying Light: The Beast, aimed at helping you complete it smoothly.

Prepare for Nighttime Hunting

To incentivize this perilous hunt, Max sweetens the deal with the promise of Lizzy, a hunting crossbow, as a reward.

sleep to nighttime

Yaga’s established location lies in the southern woods of the forest, not far from your current Safe Zone. Before heading out, ensure you have rested to transition into nighttime.

Here’s where the real challenge begins: You must stealthily navigate to the designated area while avoiding encounters with Volatiles. Be mindful that their spawn locations can vary, presenting unpredictable dangers.

To enhance your chances of success, it’s wise to keep your flashlight off or toggle it intermittently, using Survivor Senses frequently to detect any lurking Volatiles that may catch you off guard.

As you near the forest, Max will communicate via radio, indicating that Yaga’s tracks have led to a nearby wrecked vehicle. Advance cautiously toward the car, evading any Volatiles nearby by waiting for the opportune moment.

Regardless of your approach, the wreckage should become visible in the upper area of the forest, likely accompanied by a Volatile and a cluster of infected virals.

Silently approach the wreck to eliminate two infected using stealth tactics, allowing you to examine the crash site undisturbed.

Tracking Yaga’s Footsteps

Once you’ve examined the deceased soldier’s body at the car crash, you will be able to track Yaga’s footprints using Kyle’s Survivor Senses.

The tracks will skirt around the pack of virals; proceed with caution to avoid drawing their attention. If a Volatile is nearby, remain hidden in the tall grass or at a safe distance until it passes.

As you follow the winding path of footprints, the Yaga may spot you from afar. Do not panic—this isn’t a full boss fight like a Chimera.

retrieve the trophy

Quickly dispatch the Yaga while remaining vigilant of any nearby infected threats. Upon defeating this creature, loot its remains to acquire the Yaga’s Trophy, a collectible necessary for the quest.

Finding and Rescuing Max

After acquiring the trophy, note that Max’s next instruction involves meeting him at a hut near the electrical substation. To simplify the quest, consider advancing to daytime to avoid dangerous Volatiles.

Find a nearby Safe Zone or Watchtower to rest and reset the time to morning, then proceed to the destination on your map to meet Max.

the hut with baron soldiers

Upon arrival, you’ll discover the area is crawling with the Baron’s soldiers. Eliminate them with caution—firearms may be your best bet against their heavy weaponry.

After neutralizing the threat, head to the rear of the hut to access a movable metal plating. Enter through the window to find a wounded Max inside.

Max reveals that Yaga was a creation of the Baron’s men and a scientist who experimented on it. He implores Kyle to seek vengeance for his wife, who fell victim to Yaga.

Confronting the Scientist

Exit the hut and begin tracking the trail of vehicles used by the scientist and his associates. For your convenience, I can reveal where the trail concludes.

The path leads to an abandoned cabin situated in the river valley below, clearly visible from a distance as shown in the image above.

This cabin is heavily guarded by Baron militia, so arm yourself with a reliable weapon and eliminate them.Prioritize taking out the sniper on the rooftop first to safeguard your health.

Once the area is secured, enter through the upper balcony to confront the scientist.Be aware that you’ll face a moral choice, though it won’t influence your rewards.

The scientist claims that their intention was to revive Yaga, not to harm Max or his wife. Killing him won’t restore Max’s loss, and you’re given a choice: eliminate him or accept a bribe to let him go.

Regardless of your choice, the outcome does not affect your final rewards for the quest. Personally, I opted for the bribe, gaining 500 Old World Money. Although it’s not a fortune, more killing won’t undo past tragedies.

Whichever path you choose, return to the Abandoned House Safe Zone. Inside, you’ll find Max’s lifeless body accompanied by a note expressing his gratitude for pursuing Yaga, reflecting on how his wife would have appreciated Kyle.
