The Chain Reaction side quest, presented by Selby, requires players to make a significant moral choice at its conclusion. This quest not only deepens Selby’s character but also tests your ethical framework as you navigate through various challenges.
Regarded as one of the most compelling side quests in Dying Light: The Beast, it poses notable difficulties, particularly in locating the final room.
Regardless of whether you are struggling to gather supplies for the truck or are uncertain about your destination, this guide is designed to provide clarity on all aspects of the Chain Reaction side quest.
Navigating the Camping Park and Neutralizing the Gas Canisters

Upon reaching the camping park, you’ll encounter a significant number of Infected, including a formidable Goon, all thanks to the pervasive red gas canisters scattered throughout the area.
Instead of engaging in prolonged combat with the Infected, consider thinning their ranks briefly and then focusing on shutting off the gas canisters. This strategy will minimize unnecessary conflict.
After successfully disabling the canisters, proceed to enter the lodging through the main entrance and interact with the survivor found within.
Gathering Supplies at the Outpost

Your skepticism about Lucy’s intentions is understandable, and the truth will soon unfold. For now, make your way to the outpost. Given its distance, I recommend using a car for a faster journey.
The outpost is guarded by several armed individuals, but they should present no challenge for you at this stage. You can either use the tall grass for stealthy takedowns or go in guns blazing—your choice!
Once the area is secured, enter the house where you’ll find a box of rations conveniently placed on the table, alongside other useful loot. Don’t forget to load the box into the truck parked outside.
For fuel, check beside the door of the small house directly in front of you upon exiting the main house with the rations.
Racing Against Time to Reach Lucy

Upon getting into your vehicle, Selby will contact you with urgent instructions not to proceed to Lucy’s location. You’ll be given a time limit of one minute and fifty seconds to reach her, so accelerate towards the marked rendezvous point.
Once you arrive, the real challenge begins: locating the room where Lucy and Selby are hiding.
With less than a minute left, avoid the common mistake of vaulting over the sofa to search through the house.
In an amusing twist, you can find Lucy and Selby in the very first room to your left as you enter, just before the sofa that obstructs your view.
The Key Decision and Concluding the Quest

Once inside the room, you will witness Selby aiming a gun at Lucy. After some dialogue, you’ll face a pivotal decision: either allow Selby to kill Lucy or persuade him to spare her life.
Since the outcome of this choice does not alter the overall narrative, feel free to decide based on your own ethics. Personally, I chose to persuade Selby to let Lucy go, considering the potential coercion she faced from the Baron regarding her actions with you and the telepaths.
Regardless of the path you take, Selby will be displeased if you choose to save Lucy, and this encounter marks the last time you will see her.
Upon completion of the quest, you will earn two Legendary Manual Pages, a co-op Lootbox (if you completed the quest in cooperative mode), and an impressive +10, 000 XP.
