After successfully breaching the Castor Woods Mental Asylum as part of the main quest “Cries Trapped in Walls, ”you’re ready to pursue and attract the enigmatic infected hybrid known as the Beast, whose strength closely mirrors that of Kyle Crane.
Fortunately, we’re nearing the conclusion of our journey, as this quest marks the penultimate challenge leading up to the climactic finale of Dying Light: The Beast.
This guide aims to provide a comprehensive walkthrough for the “The Bait and The Beast”quest, ensuring a smooth gameplay experience without confusion or delays.
Acquiring Gas Canisters at the E&F Plant

First, as outlined by Lydia, we need to procure the red gas canisters that emit a distinctive smoke to bait the Beast, a strategy invoked in the “Toxic Relationships”mission.
Travel back to the E&F Factory, revisiting the basement, where this time you will need to collect two gas canisters rather than one.

Be aware of a Volatile lurking in the basement. Stealth is essential; navigate carefully to retrieve both canisters without alerting the creature.
Note on Multiplayer Progression Issues: If you’re playing in co-op mode, ensure your partner doesn’t collect the second canister; a bug currently prohibits them from placing it at the required location. For the time being, each player should carry a canister individually until a fix is available. We’re unsure if this bug will exist in the retail version, but the developers have been notified.
To access the canisters, utilize the vent near the door which leads directly to the hiding spot. Plan your exit around the Volatile’s path to avoid confrontation.
Once you’ve placed the red gas canisters outside the indicated hole in the wall, a cutscene will initiate, featuring Lydia and her team’s arrival, progressing the quest.
Driving and Attracting the Beast

Attracting the Beast requires strategic preparation; we must contain it to prevent it from escaping detection. The objective now is to transport the gas canisters to a specified location within a time limit.
Upon regaining control, hop into the car and prepare for a time trial challenge. You need to navigate through 27 checkpoints that will lead you straight to the cave where the Beast awaits.
Don’t fret about fuel — this segment is scripted, providing ample opportunity to speed through all checkpoints.
Confronting The Beast
Phase One

Once the driving segment concludes, you’ll face the Beast for what promises to be one of the most challenging boss battles in the game. Your primary goal is not to kill the Beast outright; rather, it is to subdue it, allowing Lydia to interact with its consciousness.
This encounter will test your skills, as you’ll have only one weapon provided by Lydia and limited healing supplies. Subduing the Beast is critical to progress the storyline.
At the fight’s start, refrain from attacking the Beast initially to allow Lydia to make her attempt. This will prove fruitless, however, as your real task is to weaken the Beast.
The Beast exhibits combat abilities similar to other Chimera Infected bosses, but his potency to inflict severe damage in just a few hits is a significant challenge, especially if you’re at or near the recommended level.
Utilize evasion skills during his jumping attacks and lunges to maximize your limited healing items. Remember, if you fall in battle, you will be reset to the fight’s beginning.
Stick to a straightforward tactic: aim for a few well-timed hits without overextending yourself. Occasionally, you’ll catch a break during his roars, but managing your stamina is vital.
Phase Two

As the battle progresses and the Beast’s health drops below 75%, a cutscene will unfold where Lydia attempts another futile control maneuver, requiring you to continue your assault strategically.
Post-cutscene, the fight resumes similarly, but now the Beast introduces new attacks that amplify the danger.

Be on the lookout for a ground pound that generates a damaging shockwave and a grab attack that can pin you down. Fortunately, you can escape the latter attack if you’re quick.
Continue executing the same tactics; feel free to activate Beast Mode, but do so with caution to mitigate incoming damage while attacking aggressively.
Cohesive teamwork in a co-op setting can provide advantages, allowing for healing opportunities, yet vigilance is essential, as brute-force tactics can lead to disaster.
The boss fight concludes automatically when the Beast’s health reaches 10%, triggering the final cutscene and ending the confrontation.
Quest Rewards

- 20, 000 XP
- Beast Among Us Charm
- Spectral Baseball Bat
- 900 Old World Money
