Launch Announcement: Durin’s Folk DLC for The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Free Range Games, in collaboration with North Beach Games, has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated Durin’s Folk DLC, set to enhance the survival experience of The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. This significant expansion is scheduled for launch on November 18 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X.

What’s New in Durin’s Folk DLC?

Players can look forward to an extensive addition of over 20 hours of gameplay, including unique cooperative events within newly randomized dungeon settings. The DLC promises to enrich the game with a variety of new content that includes:

  • A compelling new story chapter that delves deeper into the lore of Middle-earth.
  • Challenging and mysterious areas that lie beyond the traditional caverns of the mountain.
  • Innovative gameplay mechanics designed to enhance player engagement.

Engaging New Features

One of the standout additions is the ability to rescue and recruit NPCs encountered within the Mines of Moria. These characters will not only join your community but will also take on essential roles such as:

  • Blacksmith
  • Miner
  • Brewmaster
  • Guard

As players progress, they can collaborate with these NPCs to construct impressive structures known as Monuments. Additionally, the storyline will guide players in uncovering the secrets behind Durin’s Tower, giving them their first chance to explore the expansive area outside the mountains and establish significant bases in this new environment. New crafting materials, items, and recipes will also be introduced to further customize the dwarven characters.

Exciting Randomized Expeditions

The Durin’s Folk DLC introduces a thrilling endgame feature: randomized expeditions. Players can engage in these repeatable adventures to uncover exciting loot, adding a layer of unpredictability and replayability to the game.

Game Background and Reception

Initially released in October 2023 through the Epic Games Store and PlayStation 5, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria expanded its reach in late August 2024 with a launch on Steam and Xbox Series S/X. Although it did not dominate sales charts, the game has performed well enough to facilitate two years of ongoing support, culminating in the creation of the Durin’s Folk DLC. It currently holds a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, with sales figures estimated around half a million units.
