Dancing with the Stars is a popular reality TV competition series where contestants strive for audience votes and favorable judge scores. Each celebrity is paired with a professional dancer, engaging in rigorous training to deliver outstanding performances on stage.

The couple receiving the fewest votes faces elimination, while the pair that remains until the finale is crowned the champion based on majority votes. This renowned dance competition has been airing since June 1, 2005 and is currently in its 33rd season.

This series is adapted from a British format known as Strictly Come Dancing. According to the official ABC website, the “About”section describes Dancing with the Stars as a “hit series,”stating:

“Dancing with the Stars”is the hit series in which celebrities are paired with trained ballroom dancers to compete in themed choreographed dance routines that are judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts, including Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough.

Dancing with the Stars has been on air since 2005

The inaugural winner of Dancing with the Stars season 1 was Kelly Monaco, who was paired with Alec Mazo. During the 2005 season, Monaco, known for her role as Sam McCall on the ABC series General Hospital, secured victory towards the competition’s conclusion. Initially, the duo struggled in their performances and scoring, but their journey of improvement led them to win the competition.

Since its debut season, Dancing with the Stars has been aired on ABC and, in 2022, it was announced that the show would begin streaming on Disney+. A year later, it returned to both ABC and Disney+. Season 33 was renewed on February 10, 2024, and premiered on September 17, 2024.

According to a press release from ABC dated September 18, 2024, this season attracted 4.97 million viewers and achieved a 0.73 rating. Compared to the season 32 premiere, season 33 noted a 4% increase in total viewers.

Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, Dancing with the Stars has established a profound connection with its audience, as conveyed by Executive Producer Conrad Green in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on September 6, 2024:

“Alfonso [Ribeiro] and Julianne [Hough] are incredible. Our judging panel was really tight, and not replacing Len allows us a bit more room to play and bring other people in.”

Conrad further elaborated on viewer engagement by stating:

“And the way that ABC, Disney+, and Hulu all broadcast the show feels like we’re really connected to all the audiences who watch. We’re plugged into the 21st century fully. We have exciting new plans ahead, but fundamentally, we want to make this the show that many individuals have cherished across generations.”
