Funcom Reveals Release Date and New Features for Dune: Awakening
Funcom has officially announced that its highly anticipated title, Dune: Awakening, is set to release on May 20, 2025, at a retail price of $49.99. Initially planned for Q1 2025, this survival MMO promises an immersive experience in the Dune universe. Additionally, players can look forward to pre-orders commencing shortly, which will include an exclusive in-game bonus: the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a striking decoration for player bases that will feature the beloved desert mouse.
Benchmark and Character Creator Now Available
In an exciting turn of events, Funcom has released both a benchmark tool and a character creator. The benchmark allows players to test their PC performance with Unreal Engine 5, complete with an engaging ornithopter flight and a thrilling encounter with a massive sandworm. This feature not only showcases the game’s stunning graphics but helps players ensure their systems are equipped to handle the game’s demands.
Simultaneously, the character creator became accessible today, enabling players to design their avatars, which can be transferred to the full game upon launch. Participants must pass the iconic Gom Jabbar test while customizing various physical traits, selecting their home planet, caste, and mentor. This choice influences starting abilities linked to different combat schools, including Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit, Mentat, or Trooper. As players progress, they will gain access to all combat schools, allowing for diverse play styles through the combination of skills.
Exclusive In-Game Rewards for Early Participants
Players who engage with both the benchmark and character creator will be rewarded with a complimentary Frameblade knife skin at the game’s launch, incentivizing early participation and exploration of these features.
Development Background and Ambition
Funcom obtained the rights to create Dune games back in early 2019, prior to any film adaptations being released. After being acquired by Tencent, the studio significantly expanded the project’s scope. They proudly label Dune: Awakening as “the most ambitious survival game ever made, ”and early previews support this bold claim.
Technological Advancements and Future Prospects
On the PC platform, the game is expected to support NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, designed for users with the latest GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards. While a console version is likely on the horizon, its release will occur after the PC launch.
