Dune Awakening: Essential Base Building Strategies

Dune Awakening: Essential Base Building Strategies

In the ever-evolving landscape of MMOs, Dune: Awakening stands out as a captivating survival game, seamlessly blending base-building mechanics with a unique narrative. Since its early access launch on June 5th, players have been actively reshaping Arrakis, creating monumental structures that showcase intricate designs and functionality.

These bases serve multiple critical purposes: not only do they house essential resources such as refineries and fabricators, but they also offer sanctuary for your vehicles against the relentless storms of the desert. Crafting a well-functioning base requires a good deal of strategy and resource management.

The base management aspect has become a personal favorite feature of mine within Dune: Awakening. The room for creativity feels virtually limitless, and the challenge of equipping your base while maintaining its power supply adds an exciting layer of complexity. To assist you in your base-building journey, here are some pivotal tips for constructing a thriving base in Dune: Awakening.

Building a Functional Survival Base

The foundation of any successful base starts with its location. Aim to position your base near trade posts, valuable resources, or key points of interest that will consistently supply you with necessary loot.

For instance, I chose a spot approximately 100 meters from The Anvil Tradepost in the Eastern Vermilious Gap. This strategic location not only provides easy access to contracts and merchants but also lists me among many community players in a social hub.

Another excellent choice can be found at Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub, which is centrally located near the Hagga Rift and brimming with essential resources. Once you’ve decided where to set up camp, you must ensure your base is outfitted with the necessary equipment.

Here are some essential base-building tips to enhance your gameplay:

  • Explore thoroughly to select a strategic base location close to valuable resources.
  • Avoid obstructing other players by not constructing your base on roads or chokepoints.
  • Organize your base into distinct sections (e.g., fabrication area, storage area) to streamline crafting.
  • Invest in advanced power supplies, such as the Wind Turbine Omnidirectional, to enhance sustainability.
  • Ensure that door and storage permissions are set appropriately, allowing trusted friends access.
  • Utilize pentashield surfaces for vehicle access and protection.
  • Construct multiple entry points for ease of access to your base.
  • Keep critical supplies such as blood purifiers and fuel generators fully stocked at all times.

As you navigate through the research tree, you have the flexibility to choose what to unlock first. Here are some of the most vital fabricators and refineries to consider:

  • Garment Fabricator – Allows for the crafting of various gear suited for combat, adverse weather, and sandworm threats.
  • Survival Fabricator – Enables fabrication of higher-tier survival equipment like Leap Suspensors and Shields.
  • Vehicle Fabricator – Essential for creating sandbikes, buggies, ornithopters, and their upgrades.
  • Repair Station – Crucial for mending damaged gear and parts to prolong their life.
  • Improved Blood Refinery – Vital for efficient operations, providing ore refineries with water and speeding up water collection.
  • Multiple Refineries – Setting up several ore and chemical refineries can dramatically increase your output.

Safeguard Your Vehicles: Construct a Garage

The harsh sandstorms of Arrakis pose a significant threat to your vehicles, risking total destruction if left exposed. Additionally, sandworms can unexpectedly consume them. Thus, building a dedicated garage is essential for vehicle protection, along with acquiring backup parts for repairs.

In constructing your garage, pentashield surfaces will be invaluable, particularly for creating landing pads for ornithopters. The construction process can be resource-intensive, making it advisable to stockpile building materials in advance. Key resources needed include: granite, salvaged metal, iron and steel ingots, fuel cells, and water for powering your base, alongside calibrated servoks and cobalt paste for crafting pentashields.

The creative potential within Dune: Awakening is immense, allowing you to customize your base with lighting, sculptures, terrariums, and contrasting building materials. The expansive territory of Arrakis serves as a canvas for architectural brilliance, and I eagerly anticipate the various bases that will emerge across the desert.

Establishing Deep Desert Spice Farming Bases

Dune Awakening - End-Game Base

The vast deep desert holds hidden treasures and lucrative spice fields waiting to be harvested. If you dare to venture here, it’s wise to establish an auxiliary base on the shield wall to store your ornithopters and valuable resources. Playing solo in this treacherous area carries inherent risks due to allowed PVP gameplay, which can leave you vulnerable to ambushes. However, with a supportive team, you can effectively navigate these challenges to achieve significant spice yields.
